Haha, yeah, for sure. I got owned considerably on Perron.

Now I have my thoughts on Giroux and Esposito hanging out there (Esposito's journey is proving me right thus far.)

Max Pacioretty is one of the guys I hoped for and he's doing really well, so it's especially awesome to be right about a player we get.

And I know we both go to bed at night, dreaming of a world where we had Patrik Berglund and not David Fischer.

I can accept you thinking I'll be wrong about Giroux, but Esposito? Have you seen his nose-dive since when he was ranked preliminarily number 1? It's getting worse.

Great news!
When I went at Pierrefond I was really impressed by him. Sound positioning and quick legs. H'ell be a good on. He was supposed to be one of the top goalies in last year draft...

But he was picked 20th overall and I think he'll have a decent NHL career, which isn't bad for where he was drafted.

I saw Mayer in his second game of the year and he was good. I think he was the third star of the game in a 3-1 loss against the Moncton Wildcats. He played really well...

The only thing is that I think he often let one or two bad goal in...at least, he's still young and he'll be able to learn. Overall, he's better than a lot of goaltenders out there.

Much better. In Moncton, in a loss, he was given the 1st star ahead of Moncton's goalie, Riopel, which we also had at our rookie camp.

I'm a regular follower of the Sea Dogs, and I've talked to Robert on a couple of occasions. He's a LOT more relaxed and comfortable here, as he spent the bulk of the summer in Saint John, and has become accustomed to the culture.

The first two games with the Dogs this season, Mayer was playing exceptionally well behind a VERY inexperienced defense. A combined total of 87 games experience in the Q, and Mayer almost single-handedly kept the team in both games. With 4 defencemen at NHL camps, it was a miracle the scores weren't well out of hand by the mid point of the game.

Since he's 19 and he played in the CHL before his draft eligibility, I believe the team has to either keep him in Montreal or send him back to us in Saint John. ECHL and AHL are not options, as he is now treated as a CHL player as opposed to a European. I know that's the rule for drafted players, and I think it's the same for free agent signings.

Either way, I have a feeling he'll be back here, fighting for a berth in the Memorial Cup, which would be more experience than as a backup on an ECHL team.

Doesn anyone else think this is another move to try and get Denis in the big club after moving Halak? Probably sometime arround trade deadline.

Good signing !! The kid has lots of potential !! Very happy we signed him for free. We never know how goalies will develop, so this is a long term project and might serve as a trade bait in the future.

From what I've read, the athleticism is there it seems, but positioning is an issue. If you include Missaen, the team has intriguing goalie depth.

He had a very good Pierrefonds weekend. Made some amazing saves. Still has to work on some aspects of his game, but we haven't seen the last of him

Young goaltender, good for ECHL...

good acquisition...

born in 1989, which means he is 19, will turn 20 on oct.9
I was hoping they'd sign him. He was rated in the top half of the 1st round last year but had a crappy year in St.John, he was flopping around and ended up not getting drafted. I think Rollie worked with him at the prospects camp because the 2 games I saw him here in September in Moncton he was rock solid and his technique improved 150%. He always had the good size and above average athleticism.

He has a legit shot at being a #1 NHL goalie, usually you can't say that about many FA's.

He has to go back to SJ as the only alternative is keeping him in the NHL. Odds are he jumps AHL next year behind Desjardins.

Glad to see him signed. It gives us a solid potential prospect and some more depth in our goaltending pipeline.

He was actually born in the Czech Republic. Both his mother and father were born in the Czech Republic as well. He moved to Switzerland where his stepfather is from so I assume that his mother and father divorced. He has dual citizenship with the Czech Republic and Switzerland but played for the Switzerland in the World Hockey Junior Championship this past winter.

If anyone wants some more details here is an interesting interview with him done on 22 January 2008 by Hockey Future's writer Guy Flaming:

His numbers are subpar because of off-ice issues that are now corrected.

For any Montreal fan wishing to see him play, he is playing tonight at the Verdun Auditorium against the Montreal Juniors beginning at 7:30pm.

The Sea Dogs then travel to Victoriaville tomorrow for a 4pm start, then Shawinigan for a 4pm start Sunday. No guarantee that he will play all 3 games, but he is scheduled to start tonight in Verdun.

Follow the game online at www.news889.com (Saint John Sea Dogs radio broadcast) or The Team 990 (Montreal Juniors broadcast). Check the stats: www.lhjmq.qc.ca or watch the game at http://qmjhl.mytelus.com.

Thanks for the heads up. I watched last nights game, tough one for him and the team, in started out well in the 1st but the 2nd was ugly. Oh well hope he bounces back next game. Sea Dogs just got a new fan so I plan on watching a good bit of him this year.
