We will know one thing for certain.

If McCabe is the reason that Florida finishes ahead of the Leafs in the NHL standings, thus securing Toronto with the earlier draft pick during their rebuild process, that Cliff Fletcher is a Genius ..

Yes and no. If by aquiring McCabe which may make the Panthers a better team, should Fletch not have tried to aquire more, clearly showing the value of McCabe? It would actually prove otherwise saying I just traded an imapct player to hlep another team, and got fleeced for making Florida better. He's going to be looking for that third round pick at the draft for a while, until he remebers he gave that to Florida as well as a player who really helped that NHL team out.

More veterans in the lineup Wednesday than on Monday.

Some Roster cuts coming today say the Sun

Beware: The cuts are a coming
By LANCE HORNBY, SUN MEDIA

Who will survive the Maple Leafs training camp should become clear this morning.

Coach Ron Wilson is set to divide the 50-odd players into more distinct Leafs-Marlies groups as the farmhands prepare for exhibition games in St. John's, Nfld., next week.

It's thought juniors such as Woodbridge's Chris DiDomenico will get into one exhibition game either tonight against Pittsburgh or tomorrow against the Buffalo Sabres before returning to their clubs.

But general manager Cliff Fletcher says Kelowna Rockets defenceman Luke Schenn, a first-round pick, will be kept with the Leafs for at least the duration of the main camp.

Leaf hopefuls Robbie Earl and Jeremy Williams also are likely to play in the next couple of days.

Veterans are a buzz kill, because they're complacent and don't feel they need to give 100% by feeling jobs are safe, while the younger players are always self motivated, highly energetic and produce a better all around effort and more enjoyable experience for the Fans.

Fletcher should still continue to carve into the veteran group as the team gets assembled for the season, and provide the younger players more opportunity for this very reason.

Veterans not giving 100% in the exhibition games is a yearly tradition, welcome new fan.

Did you notice that trend carry on into the NHL season not just preseason for the past three years?.

Then you just turn your excuses to blame the coach for not motivating the team when they're floating out on the ice.

Younger teams are more self motivated its a well known fact.

This is the same for every team in every sport, it's not exclusive to the Leafs.

You would think based on your assesment that Cliffy would give more focus on the up and coming youger players, as apposed to signing/trading for those vets like Mayers, Finger, Hagman, Van Ryn when he should have based on your opinion giving the younger Williams, Earls, Mitchels of the world a chance. Certianly don;t want another un motivated team.

Defenceman Jeff Finger, one of Toronto’s major off-season free agent signings, will not face the Penguins after blocking a shot with his skate in practice. He is listed day-to-day.

The rest of the Leafs lineup against the Penguins:

Forwards:

Mikhail Grabovski - Nik Antropov - Nikolai Kulemin

Alexander Steen - Niklas Hagman - Alexei Ponikarovsky

Dominic Moore - Ryan Hollweg - Jamal Mayers

Jeremy Williams - Robbie Earl - Chris DiDomenico

Defence:

Ian White - Luke Schenn

Pavel Kubina - Carlo Colaiacovo

Tomas Kaberle - Jaime Sifers

Vesa Toskala - Curtis Joseph

Wilson also confirmed his goaltending plans for the remainder of the pre-season: Toskala will start in goal against the St. Louis Blues (Sept. 29), Detroit Red Wings (Oct. 3) and Columbus Blue Jackets (Oct. 5); Joseph will play against the Blues (Oct. 1) and Red Wings (Oct. 4); and Justin Pogge will be in goal against the Sabres (Sept. 27).

All the remaining Leaf games are on Leafs TV and broadcast on NHL Center Ice for those that can't get Leafs TV.

They should be highly motivated today to put on a good show.

It will be interesting to see them in action for sure.

They say Dido has been working out this summer in Toronto at a skating clinic, so looking forward to see if he has improved his foot speed as a result.
