Nedved Cut per Weinman (G. Moore, Anisimov, Weise, Pock, Parenteau as well)

Sam has just updated his blog stating that Petr Nedved has been cut from the team. http://rangers.lohudblogs.com

I respect & applaud the man.

Great ethic, just not a good fit for this team.

Guess they're just making room for Shanny.

I wasn't a big fan of the tryout, but now I really don't understand it and think it may've taken away from others preparing for the season. I don't know what their expectation of Nedved was but by all accounts, he seemed to have met or exceeded what was being asked of him. So cutting him is kind of confusing. I'm fine with it, but it's almost like why was he here in the first place. What did he have to do to win a spot? Lead the team in points? This is a bit confusing to me. OK, he doesn't fit - where did they think he fit when they invited him to camp?

Fletch I agree with you wholeheartedly. I think Nedved earned his shot, but my only logic that I could compile is that Korps beat him for the spot. A spot the Rangers were trying to insure themselves for by inviting Nedved to camp.

What exactly has Nedved ever done to get this venom from you FLY?

Come on now.

He was there as a favor, basically. I think he needed to dominate in order to win a spot, and he just played pretty good. Also, considering how many games they had to play, I don't think he really took a spot away from anyone in camp.

Pock and Weise also sent down. Poor Pock, just needs to be traded.

at least I got to see him score one last goal at MSG.

I like Nedved, but it was pretty obvious they were gonna cut him, so I'm not floored.

in other news, look at the lines Sam has up.
Renney finally took his head out of his *** and put Drury on the wing.

To be honest, that's a weak lineup offensively after the first two lines.

I like Korpikoski and Callahan, and Voros has played pretty well, but I'd be surprised if that line scored many goals in the grand scheme of things. That's what I really liked about having Dubinsky as the third line center. Gives the team a lot more center and scoring depth. Moving Drury to the wing greatly weakens the depth at center

As far as I know, Nedved invited himself. The Rangers were classy and gave him a shot.

You do have a very good point though.

Exactly, I was a supporter of Nedved at least making the trip to Europe for a longer look, but Korp beat him out fair and square, which is great. But the animosity towards Nedved on this board is crazy, the guy came in and put together a very good preseason, and I hope he catches on with another team.

Dubinsky is more of a scoring threat than Drury, I think him and Zherdev could be scary good. Dubinsky is going to surprise a lot of people this year. Drury will put himself in front of the net for Naslund and Gomez.
I'd like to see Prucha on that third line with Korpikoski. if not trade him.

By watching him in his last 2 NHL season, and then watching him not even be able to stay on a terrible Flyers team with his lazy, unmotivated play and getting sent down to the AHL. Nedved is exactly the type of player we have moved away from over the past 3 years....why start the trend again?

Players at 37 don't change their work ethics overnight. Sather wasn't fooled thankfully.

the guy was our best player this pre-season, what does he have to do? nedved has stood out, betts hasn't done anything. renney wants more scoring from the 4th line. so why the hell did he cut nedved in favor of betts

Update from Sam:

Quote:
Update, 11:48 a.m.: Artem Anisimov, Greg Moore, Dale Weise, and Thomas Pock are among those players reassigned.

In fact, let’s go with the 26 players who are still here, including the new lines they’re practicing in (note Chris Drury at wing):

Naslund-Gomez-Drury

Dawes-Dubinsky-Zherdev

Callahan-Korpikoski-Voros

Rissmiller-Betts-Orr

Sjostrom-Prucha-Fritsche

At defense, Mara, Kalinin, Fahey, Staal, Girardi, Redden, Potter, and Rozsival are still here.

The three goalies are Lundqvist, Valiquette, and Wiikman,

So that leaves the Rangers with 15 forwards, eight defense, and three goalies. They need to get to 24 for Prague, and then down to 23 when they return to the States (presumably, Wiikman will go down after the Prague trip). Count on them cutting one more forward, and at least one but possibly two defensemen.

I’m not sure what to read into the Prucha, Sjostrom and Fritsche line, but all of those players could be the ones on the bubble. But that’s just speculation at this point.

I'm pretty upset they chose the likes of Rissmiller and Sjostrom over PAP who I think has outplayed both so far.

I still don't see what he did in his time here to get slammed the way he has been.
