Mayer is still with the team and now he is showing up on the Habs roster on their site:
http://canadiens.nhl.com/team/app?pa...e=page&tab=prf

Anyone think this kid is going to get a contract?

I think it makes a lot of sense, the only thing it effects is the 50 contract limit to which he wouldn't even count against this year because he will be in juniors. Our prospect depth at the goalie position stinks, granted it's not a major issue when you have a 21 year old Price and a young Halak, but with Desjardins, Missiaen and Lacasse, that's one scary group imo. So adding Mayer it at least adds another body to the depth chart and he's a late '89 so he can go to the AHL next season.

No I don't think so, since he's in the CHL as far as I know the CHL is for all players in the CHL. Either way I don't see him making the jump, he didn't look too good last year in the games I saw and this year he's got a good team in front of him that some think could win the Q this year. Plus he can backstop the Swiss team at the WJC's, so this should be a good year for him to learn and get experience.

oh I thought he could... since there was this whole debate on whether the habs should have sent Sergei Kost to the AHL 2 years ago when he was 19... but was eligible for the AHL since he's european.

It might be different since he was drafted out of the Euro leagues, whereas Mayer wasn't drafted and already has played in the Q this year.

My prediction ? He will have a career filled with some callups in the NHL and will be resend down to the AHL right away because younger guys will take his spot. The main reason would be he isn't good enough to play regularly in the NHL... For example, fillers like Dominic Moore, Brad Wincester, Brad Isbister, Kris Beech, Denis Hamel, Craig Darby, Darby Hendrikson, Boyd Devereaux, Jason Ward, Jason King, Vernon Fiddler, Kris Kolanos, Jeff Taffe, Greg Zanon, and so on.... Guys like Chipchura are raining in the hockey world.
Players like Winchester, Isbister, Beech, Kolanos, King, Hamel, Taffe, etc are all offensive minded players who didn't establish themselves as top 6 forwards in the NHL for whatever reasons. Now they go back and forth between the farm and the NHL because they CAN'T play bottom 6 roles in the NHL since they are offensive minded players more than checkers.

Comparing them to Chipchura makes little sense, since Chipchura's the completely opposite in terms of style as a player.

Greg Zanon is actually a defenceman and a damn good defensive d-man.

Vernon Fiddler is also a solid grinder, 32 points a year ago for Nashville.

Just watching Hardcore Hockey Talk on the Score and this idiot Carlito from Manitoba just called in. He is a Sabres fan and he said that the Sabres are going to finish first in the Eastern Conference and then he went on an anti-Habs rant. He said they are going to be out of the playoffs by Christmas and everyone will want Kovalev's head. He also said Price is terrible and fat and out of shape. I just thought I would share it because it was good for a laugh. Oh and he called the Habs a ****** ass team on the air live.

The amount of hab haters that have come running out of the woodwork the past 8 months or so is ****ing unbelievable.

But that show on the Score has really grown on me. I enjoy listening to Kouleas talk hockey, especially when he goes on rants about hockey in the U.S. Usually has good callers too, not counting that Carlito ******.

Most excellent post!
Chipchura isn't flashy and will never be considered a top-2 line center but, in a few years, he'll be considered the kind of player a team needs to win. Similar to what a guy like Peca used to bring. Character, leadership, shutdown abilities and the ability to play his best in really big games.

I remember when Morency was subbing for Melnick a few years back. He was criticizing Gainey, which is fine, but the comments didn't make sense, he was talking about the lack of success in signing ufa's but his supposition was that he wouldn't spend.

So it's training camp, Gainey comes on the show, Morency clams up, not a tough question out of his mouth. No guts, a lot of tough talk but easy from a distance.
