Phaneuf might be overrated by some, but he's much better than Burns. He had more points, more hits, and significantly more ice time per game than Burns (on a team with other very good defensemen).

Phaneuf is a #1 defenseman at the age of 23 with the potential to be a team maker/franchise player. He could even rival Scott Stevens with some maturity. Burns is a #2 defenseman IMO, he might do ok as a #1, but he's no Chara, Bouwmeester, Pronger, etc. If he makes improvements even close to last years, he'll be right there, Phaneuf already is and that's the difference.

Phaneuf is better, but in the context of the question, I wouldn't trade Burns for Phaneuf...maybe it's because I just don't like Phaneuf that much. *shrug*

I think it's all a matter of time. Phaneuf hit his growth peak the year after his draft and has improved immensely every season, meanwhile Burns started hitting his growth streak about two years ago, and IMO, Burns' improvement on a year to year basis is much more impressive than Phaneuf's. Still, Phaneuf is better now, but I think Burns will be better in the long run.

Phanuef is flashier and better offensively, but if I'm building a NHL team right now I'd go with Burns all around game.

If you were a new NHL team, would you not want the guy who is going to sell the most tickets?

I can see why a Minnesota fan wouldn't.

Phaneuf easily for this and that takes nothing away from Burns who is a damn good defensemen, who may possible be catching up to Phaneuf.

Brent Burns is the most overrated Defencemen in the world. Unbelievable, how people love this guy so much in this board.

Watch him play and you'll understand why there is so much love for him

I do not know why the Wild and their fans are cheering so much there, Phaneuf clearly won that fight.

Voted Phaneuf (no bias here)
