I'm glad someone took a flyer on him and it looks like he'll get a shot in the NHL. He wasn't going to work out here after he made it pretty clear last year he wasn't satisfied with being a 7th defenseman.
I don't think it's a big loss. He's capable of playing in the NHL but kind of a borderline player. Both Potter and Fahey have looked pretty good to me. With Sanguinetti, Sauer and Del Zotto in the pipeline--I think the numbers game was working against him anyway. Good luck to him--at least after he moves to another team than the Isles.
so what are the cap implications here? are we devoid of his salary now?
There really are no cap implications. If he cleared waivers, he'd be in Hartford and wouldn't have counted against the cap. The only thing this does is save the Rangers a little money and reduce the number of NHL contracts the Rangers have (teams are limited to 50).
