Hoping Oshie plays tonight. He's my boy. Might have to drive down to Toronto to catch this one ... Should be a fun game to watch, hopefully Toskala brings his A game.

I think Grabovski would be better suited on Antropov's RW.

PS. Interesting story attached to the 2006 draft .. Barry Trapp was just released and JFJ replaced him with Dave Morrison as Dir of Amateur Scouting.. Trapp came on for an interview after the draft and said he would have selected Anthony Stewart little brother Chris Stewart (Kingston Frontenacs OHL), with that pick.

Keep an eye on Patty Berglund in the next couple of games and you will see what I mean.. Tlusty will be dressed for the Leafs so it will give a good comparison. Tlusty has been better then I expected to this point FWIW.

I always make my own picks pre draft (much like draft junkies Timlap and Ohio Jones do) and then enjoy following that through post draft to see how things unfold. That is how I singlehandedly discovered Kulemin through arm chair amateur scouting.

The one player I was hoping for in the 07 draft was Mikael Backlund. How's he doing so far?

I think he was drafted by the rockets but am not sure if he's going to play there this year or make the Flames out of camp this season.

He'd also be an important part of an excellent WJC defensive group for the good guys.

The rest of the preseason games are on leafs tv. The alternative is online streaming for free. Check our streaming thread for more info.

Were probably going to have him and Schenn on the juniors this year, I cannot wait to watch it.

He is on 2-way entry level deal and can move up and down to the AHL freely without waiver concerns.

Leafs want to give the kid a look .. Dman Richard Petiot was also recalled and practiced with the Leafs today rather then the Marlies, but he will not play though tonight.

lots of injuries though... might be a tough year back there, but like you said, I might be surprised. I'd love to see the Blues do well this year.

I watched the Tourney as well from Traverse City and Berglund had 4 goals and 4 assists in the event for the Blues..

He is a big, strong center and does have a little Mats Sundin in his style of play as the above poster mentioned..

Columbus prospect Voracek was another prospect player that looked really good ain that event, he could be a ROY candidate this year in the NHL. Fabian Brunstrom also looked like he could be a player in the future also.

Leafs Director of Amateur scouting Dave Morrison confessed after the draft that had the Leafs not traded their 1st rounder for Toskala they were prepared to select either Mikael Backlund or David Perron (whom you can see tonight with the Blues) with Leafs 1st rounder in 2007. Perron had a hattrick the other night for the Blues and has 5 goals in the preseason.

I thought Leafs should have traded Tucker to Calgary rather then resign him at the time and get Flames 1st rounder .. Oddly enough Calgary selected Backlund with that very pick.. Backlund has played well at Flames camp but they have 14 forwards on 1 way deals so he is not likely to make the team as even Dustin Boyd who leads the Flames in exhibition scoring is also still on the bubble with the vet roster..

Fun fact .. Backlund was selected by my Kelowna Rockets in the Euro import draft last year and Flames could send him to the WHL if they want. Luke Schenn and Backlund could be teammates this season in the dub this year. If that happens I can keep a close eye on both for you.

I was really impressed by him at the WJC 07. I think the Flames got a steal in that draft.

I like Backlund as well he was among my favs in the 2007 draft.. However as you know, I wanted the Leafs to trade up to get my boy Brandon Sutter in 2007.

I would have however also selected Backlund with Leafs pick #13 had it not been traded away.

Interesting to see Rogers playing. He was one of the better players at the Prospects Tournament if I recall from the reports I read. He was also a UFA that some NHL teams were really after last season.. hopefully he can be a good physical presence tonight.

Bringing up these Marlies that were recently sent down is just because of the
players nursing small-injuries.. though why not just play Jeremy Williams again? Maybe Williams hasn't stepped up as much as some of the coaching staff would have liked. Mitchell is getting alot more chances, and has shown alot more hustle then some of the veterans. I really hope he bumps one of them.

He should fit in nicely with Iginla in the near future.
