Well, I guess that opens up a spot... tough break for Goose.

That sucks...so he won't be back until the end of October probably. Who sticks with the team the few weeks of the season then? I'm gonna go out on a limb and say....Zagrapan.

They didn't plan to play Goose at center anyway, so MacArthur will play and Peters will ride the pine.

So will Mac take Goose's spot with Connolly, or on the 4th line?
Max / Timmah / Kotalik could have some potential, I guess.

It still takes away from the slim faceoff depth that the team has. Another injury to a center and we'll be in a tough spot, its a good thing there isn't another top-9 center who is prone to injuries on the roster...

Yeah but they're not going to call someone up when they have a replacement already waiting.

Oh I know. My comment was more about the general state of the roster as opposed to immediate call-ups.

I don't think that's a limb, as long as you consider contract status (someone mentioned CMac) it looks like Zags is making a strong case to be at the top of the call-up list.

On a related note, does anyone have info on Gaustad's injury history? Is it me, or is it starting to feel like he gets injured an awful lot?

Well, he was out for most of the second half two years ago with that lascerated tendon (I think it was) but he didn't miss a game last year. Both the tendon thing and the thumb injury were pretty freak events too, so I wouldn't call him injury prone.

Zagrapan would be my choice and if he continues to play well in the remaining preseason games he should be the Sabres choice. But the Sabres may decide they have to fill the spot with a more physical player (Darche/Mancari) or try to make a splash with Gerbe. I think they have use this opportunity to give Zagrapan a shot and see what they have. It'll be a bitter pill to swallow if he's sent down and will push him that much closer to jumping to the KHL next year.

I'm torn. I definitely would like to see Zags given a shot and I can see it from the perspective of giving him a taste of what he has to work for. But also, I think a guy like Darche makes a little more sense in terms of role and experience early in the season.

I hate CMac there, but the Sabres aren't calling anyone up to fill Goose's position. They'll go with what they have.

Although, I could see CMac and Paille flipped, which would piss me off even more, but what can you do.

Is Cmac's spot a given? I could see them trying to sneak him through waivers.

2 words: Jiri. Novotny.

Yeah, his spot is basically a given, unless Peters is ahead of him on the depth chart

that's a bold claim considering Poms made it through once. Every team in the league has their own young on the fringe borderline pro who can't pass through waivers. Cmac is not very special. and the idea of playing a defensively inept guy on the 4th line with Mair and Kaleta bothers me.

i say there is a 75% chance he would make it through

For every Poms that makes it through but shouldn't there's a Chris Thorburn that probably should make it through but doesn't. I think MacArthur has showed enough offensive flash that a team would take a flyer on him. He was also on Canada's WJC team a few years back so he's got some name recognition. Unrelated, but I think Paetsch would make it through.

I'd like to give the spot to Mancari. Perhaps playing him with Mair and Kaleta will bring out the beast in him. I certainly don't want Peters playing, nor do I think CMac on the 4the 4th line does anything positive.

Mancari is a definite waste. I think the 4th could be Peters-Zag-Kaleta, depending on mair not playing either. Yikes.

Depends, are we talking major injuires that cause him to miss a lot of games? If so the answer would be no.

In his last 6 pro seasons (3 in Roch/3 in Buff) he has played in 80,78,76,78,54 and 82 games respectively. The only major injury causing him to miss significant time was the lacerated tendon. As has been mentioned that was a bit of a freak injury.

But if you are talking about minor injuries that he can usually play through or only miss few games. Then the answer would be somewhat and get use to it. Things like bruised shoulders, jammed thumbs, etc are par for the course for someone that plays they way he does.
