Where do the new guys fit in?

(On the prospect list)

I'd say:
Schremp behind Deslauriers
Dubnyk behind Niinimaki
Tesliuk behind Gilbert
Paukovich behind Jacques so...

Jeff Deslauriers, G

Robbie Schremp, C

Marc-Antoine Pouliot, C

Jesse Niinimäki, C

Devon Dubnyk, G

Doug Lynch, D

Jeff Woywitka, D

Matthew Greene, D

Jani Rita, LW

Alexei Mikhnov, LW

Tony Salmelainen, RW

Colin McDonald, RW

Kyle Brodziak, C

Joe Cullen, C

Tom Gilbert, D

Roman Tesliuk, D

Brad Winchester, RW

J.F. Jacques, LW

Geoff Paukovich, LW

Miceal Svensk, D

I'd put Dubnyk ahead of Niinimaki. Otherwise, top 5 looks dead-on.

I'd put Schremp right at the top, with Pouliot and then the goalies. Probably JDD then Lynch, Mikhnov, Woywitka, Dubnyk, McDonald, Greene, Niinimaki.

Man, wouldn't it be nice to have a prospects camp now?

Maybe Guy will let us know when the rankings are going to be updated. I'm curious to see myself.

Schremp is definatly the most skilled. How about:

Schremp
JDD
Pouliot
Dub
Ninimaki
Greene
Woy
Lynch
Rita
Mikhnov

I think how you rank depends on your criteria: overall upside, or proximity to an NHL roster. Schremp's potential seems undeniable, but someone like Woywitka is likely closer to cracking an NHL roster. I'm looking forward to seeing Guy's updated assessment.

So is the prospects camp a no go this year?

The re-rank will be done in about 2 weeks. First the draft review will come out and then the re-rank.

I've already begun speaking with the scouting staff (Brad Davis and Chris McCarthy last night and this morning) but will also be talking to more in the next couple days I hope. I like to get as much info and as many quotes as I can because I take the rankings very seriously and although they are "my rankings", I want them to be accurate and therefore I use the quotes to explain the positioning.

The criteria is based on peak potential impact in the NHL but I do consider age/closeness to the NHL as a tie breaker. The trading of Chimera will benefit Rita in that regard where as it hurt him the last time the ranks came out because it looked like he was on the outside.

There is no Prospect camp this year. It will return annually once the NHL does.

Does this mean that Lowe is likely to offer Rita a one-way contract to convince him to stay in NA? Might be worth asking if you get the chance.

I don't even need to ask. I'll go out on a limb here and not even really think that it's a risk to say... I strongly believe that Jani Rita will now get a one-way contract from the Oilers and will be on the 23-man roster the next time that Edmonton plays a regular season game.

The "our saviour" thing, really... not good.

Oops... how did that get in there? Must be an anomoly. I'm gonna write the moderators now and tell them there's a bug loose in the boards.

Nice to hear you come out and state that Guy. All of us on the boards have confidence when you say something like that. It's nice to feel that Rita will finally get his chance. Personally I was beginning to worry that Rita was going to become one of those players we never gave an opportunity to until we let them loose and they have great success on another team.
