Lalime to the Blues for a 4th in '05

Given such an underwhelming return, who thinks Lowe's return on Salo (a lesser goalie with a shorter shelf life) was fairly acceptable?

returns are comparable

Tom Gilbert was drafted in the 4th round as well.

Though Ottawa wasn't going to get a lot since everybody knew they had to dump Lalime with the pending addition of Hasek, and the Oilers weren't going to get a lot of Salo with his salary and year from hell.

Great weekend for st.louis. Lalime is still relatively young, and he's an affective goalie who is sound. Not an elite backstopper, but much better than Johnson...or for that matter, markanen/conklin. Add in the acquisition of Schwarz, and St. Louis' goalie depth just went from a weakness to a mild strength.

No kidding, did they ever address their goaltending.

Trade Belle for Bacashihua(sp?)

draft Schwarz

trade for Lalime

That's right I forgot about the belle trade. Indeed, that's quite a turn around in a matter of three days.

Again I wonder, why can we never make deals like this? Maybe the Nedved deal was similar, but we never seem to make pick-for-good-needed-player moves like a bunch of teams seem to. Why not?

Do you really want to pay Lalime 3.5 mil?? Thats how much we're paying Smyth! That could be Salo all over again...

Exactly. A small market team has to be cost effective. These types of trades are not cost effective. That's why we don't make them.

Larry Pleau proves once again why he is the worst GM in the league. I'm not saying any of his moves aren't justified, but I love how he waits until Osgood has a GOOD season, then says "holy, 1.74 GAA in the playoffs? We need goaltending!" I also believes that his goal this weekend was to get a potential franchise goaltender and a new starter and he ended up getting one too many. I'm betting he wishes he never dealt Shawn Belle now. Watch for Bacaushiua(sp?)or Schwartz to be dealt by this time next year assuming there is a season.
