This guy is 25 years old, is this a depth move? Does anyone have anymore info on him?

Yes I do

Redline has him listed as one of the top overagers in the draft.

Heres what they have to say.

"Goaltender had a breakthough year, played almost every game for Djurgarden after coming off his first season in the SEL with limited icetime. Started out the season on fire and played unbelievable for some stretches and ended up with very solid stats (2.31 GAA, .923 sv%, but had a letdown at the end of the season and completely vanished in the playoffs. Still one of the better goalies to come out of Sweden for some time"

Good ninth found "flyer" pick.

You though Dubnyk was a big goalie:

The Oilers' draft page says this:

"9 274 Bjorn Bjurling Stockholm, Sweden 8/21/1979 6' 10" 205 Djurgarden G "

If this guy can ever make it as a backup his presence alone will be distracting enough to the opposing forwards.

There are two ways to look at this.

Good use of a ninth round pick. Bjurling is a solid goalie, not able to play in the NHL just yet and doesn't have much time to improve, but still a potential backup.

Couldashouldawoulda, Niklas Bäckström from Finland ('78) was available. He'd be a legit candidate for the best goalie in Europe, clearly better than Bjurling now and in the future.

Personally, I would have looked ahead and taken Ahlqvist before either of them.

I always thought Jabba The Hutt woulda been a great goalie. His reflexes weren't so good but he was never out of position.

hehehehehehehehehe

I'm not sure why, but I assumed people knew he was only 6'0". Then I realized it doesn't say so in this thread, and people might have taken the 6'10" thing seriously.

Geez, a 6'10 goalie. At some point you'd wonder if he could play net. I guess he and Chara could talk about the weather.

Man, it's a shame Salo didnt hang around the NHL for a few more years.

I can just imagine the goalie fight...
