My little take is that Jacobs and the brass didn't like paying Joe his post-lockout big dough and when he and the team didn't perform up to par at year's start, the pressure was on for results or heads would roll leading to a big stupid mistake.

That's exactly what I had heard/read about at the time of the trade.

At the time I was negotiating an endorsement deal with his agent and kept on getting put off til his contract with the Bruins was settled. I really got the impression that the Bs didn't want to pay (I don't think they trusted that he was the guy to lead them to playoff success). When they did pay and he didn't deliver at the start of the season, they probably felt like they made a mistake and moved him.

This is just my perception. I've got nothing to back it up.

But that's the way I see it in my world.

The bruins will probably get something decent for him, if not a couple of decent assets. He's better than any setup man on Montreal, but we really don't need him, far too many setup players.

Savard is interesting because whatever happens he will get you 85-100 points. I don't like him that much and he's small but he keeps producing year in, year out.

Something like that could make a lot of sense IMO. Canucks need offense bad, and the B's want that top pairing dman.

When you know your team wants to trade you right at the beginning of the season... you don't feel so welcomed.

Vancouver wants to trade Ohlund? I thought they just said that he'll be taking the ceremonial face-offs as the longest standing Canuck?

If you think that Bruins are trying to move Savard, you are out of your mind, no matter what the press is telling us.

Now, if the Bruins are willing to move Savard, that I am ready to buy.

It would seem to me that Chi is looking at the roster and finds defence a bit lacking (and after Chara, it probably is), while the debt in the middle is quite good (especially if Bruins believe that Bergeron is back in full health).

Bruins also understands that one has to give value to obtain value (unlike proposals on Trade Board), and Savard and Kessel are only pieces that could be moved and actually have value. Since Kessel still has plenty of untapped potential, his possible value for Bruins is higher than his value in trade. Savard on the other hand is very well known commodity, giving hime very good value in trade.

Now the only remaining difficulty is to find team that would like to have another top-end center (no shortage of those around) and could be willing to give up top-end defenceman, preferably of puck moving sort (now that is going to be a short list).

Could Chicago actually be option? They have their premium puck mover in Campbell for years to come, so they COULD be willing to move one quality defenceman (Seabrook?) for another center (I think their preseason has indicated that Kane wasn't really working in center, Sharp is better as winger and apparently Kontiola is not deemed ready yet so there is vacancy)

Yea, trade your #1 Center. A guy that put up 78pts in 74GP on a really weak team, and had two 95pts+ seasons prior to last year..for a busted up injury prone Dman...that makes a lot of sense

They announced during the intermission that Savard was on the block...During the RDS update thing. I found that hilarious since he was right there.

well he was in the locker room at that time :p hopefully he heard it.

I'm pretty sure he knew anyway because he seemed quite sad during the game.

Could Savard-Bouwmeester be a good basis for trade discussion? Florida got some d-men this winter, but are still lacking offense. I think that it would make sense for both team (as a basis, like I said).
