Gotta say, smart move by the Kings sending Voinov to Manchester to see if he can stick there, instead of to the Q.

Signing Jones and then sending him back to Calgary...not so much. So this pretty much spells the end for one of Zatkoff, Taylor, Quick after this year then huh?

And lastly anyone else think Meckler, Boyle, and Moller got sent down for a second after seeing the blurb on the front page?

Maybe for Daniel Taylor, but I think you're a little confused if you think Zatkoff and Quick are going anywhere.

Jones obviously impressed enough. Pretty much spells the end for the red headed step child, Danny Taylor.

Jones has been assigned back to Juniors so they might keep Taylor around a bit longer...

Isn't Taylor on the last year of his deal? And wouldn't Jones be able to play in Manchester next year? If he isn't Zatkoff would probably be the starter and Jones would be in Ontario.

I like this signing. He has good junior league stats. Who knows, maybe he'll turn out to be a top notch goalie some day

But personally, i think DL is just stockpiling his assests. He does it with draft picks, so why not prospects?

You dont go fishing without bait, after all.

Yes, this is the 3rd year of Taylor's deal...

I'm not sure about Jones in the AHL next year. This will be his 3rd season in Juniors...

I'm thinking Bernier will see some time in Manchester next season as well. Get him to the NHL too soon and his second contract could get pricey. Only give him one-season of NHL play going into his second contract and keep the $$$ low. No need to rush him to the NHL anyway...

Nope, Jones will not be eligible for the minor leagues until 10-11.
Probably a good move instead of using another pick on another overager next year. Low risk move anyways.

This is pretty cool, the guy comes in on a try out basis and earns himself a 3 year contract. I am happy for him and his family, probably a dream come true. We have a reat crop of goalie prospects. Kudos Mr. Jones!

In any case, it would have been possible for someone to sign Lewis in summer 05 or Perron in summer 06 but nobody really knew about them then.
From the current CBA, section ...

8.9 Eligibility for Play in the League.
No Player shall be eligible for play in the League unless he:

(ii) had played hockey in North America the prior season and was under age 20 at the time of the last Entry Draft, and signed an SPC which was signed and registered with the League between the conclusion of the Entry Draft and commencement of the Major Juniors season (except that if such Player had signed an NHL try-out form, which was signed and registered with the League during the aforesaid time period, then the deadline for signing and registering with the League an SPC with such try-out Club shall be the commencement of the NHL Season). (I added underlines.)

I had this in my notes, but where it says "under" I had mistakenly written "over". Not quite the same thing.

I think this answers the question. If I'm incorrect please let us all know.

I had no idea a rule like this existed. Seems like a great way to grab a sleeper. Kudos to DL and his crew.

he was the guy who had a try-out during the phoenix and kings rookie game. ( not pre-season )
I saw the game on the Lakings.com and I thought that he was so-so.

So what's the over/under on Eklund trying to get me for his site? So far I'm batting a thousand on this whole signings thing!

Just glad to pass on the information.
