But there is a reason he's being paid to coach a professional team of athletes, and I am not. Though, I suspect that often times certain players sit and others play for reasons other than simply winning the current game. Or, for reasons that aren't apparent that affect the current game. Information that we aren't privy to.

Regardless, I think that Orr has a purpose, but I don't think the need is there for this game, or the next.

Lundqvist doesn't look ready, the team hasn't had a chance to gel yet, playing in an odd environment against an offensive power-house of a team. This one has all the makings of a blow out.

I'm with FLYLine... 5-1 loss.

Erh?

It's Tampa Bay Lightning ...

They have improved but let's remember that we're talking about the only team that was actually worse than LA Kings last year.

They are not the same team. Not in the least.

Oh, so they have suddenly transformed, by nifty drafting and trades, from the worst team of the league to an offensive power house?

Come on, they are better than last year (because they can't be worse), but they're no power house in any way.

But it's the first game of the season, so it can go anyway.

Well, they have at least 5 forwards that make them a dangerous team offensively (Lecavalier, St. Louis, Vrbata, Prospal, Stamkos).

One other that may or may not be as effective as he was last year (Malone). My guess is he won't be.

And one that has huge potential this year (Jokinen).

Offensively, they are far deeper then we are with legit scoring threats.

Our defense and goaltending is better.

So who knows how this will go.

If Lundqvist is Lundqvist then maybe we can suffocate them enough to match the scoring output.

And yet they ended up dead last last year.

Has they really changed that much?

I agree that no-one knows how a first game will go.

But Tampa was a bottom feeder last year, and they will be a somewhat better bottom feeder this year.

I would agree. Calling them a 'power-house' is a little ridiculous. Detriot is a power-house. Tampa Bay, while improved, is not a top team, not even offensively. They're going to score goals, and they're going to give up goals. Overall, anything is an improvement over last year for them.

Anyone know if this is playing on Center Ice? It seems to be on Dish Network channel 625 but when I try to record it looks like its going to be blacked out. I'm in upstate NY and Center Ice has worked with all the Rangers games for the past 2 seasons but this is scaring me...the entire reason I have Center Ice is for the Rangers. If they're going to start being blacked out for my area I will not be happy. Anyone know whats going on?

Flyers were dead last and turned it around the year after. That was without a player of Lecavalier ability or a 1st OV pick in Stamkos. Offensively they could be a power house, the question is can they keep it out of thier net? I think thier goaltending looks good in the two games we saw. The d needs an upgrade but it has it's bright spots too. I like thier chances to finish top 8, esp in that division.

LETS GO RANGERS!

My predictions for the game.

1st goal of the season goes to Girardi
1st penalty goes to Zherdev

Rangers win game 5-4 in OT with Mr Clutch getting the winner.
