Hey... what happens if Stoll or Handzus get seriously hurt?

Would the Kings have to scramble to replace that money to reach the Salary Floor?

I'm not a CBA expert, but I think that IR only helps teams that are at the Salary Cap. This way they can call up someone to replace the injured player and go over the cap ceiling temporarily.

Updated as of tonite's Final Roster Cuts... assuming Zeiler makes the team and adding the IR players. Even removing the IR players, They'd reached the floor with Zeiler.

We'll see if another move is in the offing, maybe a waiver claim or a signing of a particular RFA.

Actually that is not true FW. Right now (with Zeiler, Clune and Cliche on the IR) the Kings are sitting at $41.78 million.

If you take away Clune and Cliche ($1.46 million combined) then the Kings would drop to $40.32 million (that figure already includes Zeiler). Which is about $380,000 below the salary floor. If O'Sullivan does not sign and those three players come off the IR within the next month then Dean will have to call up a player making at least $850,000 to stay "Cap Complaint". If he wants to entertain the idea of sending Moller back after 10 games then he will have to bring up Purcell at some point to stay "Cap Compliant".

moot point now. Edited to show O'Sullivan's $2.925 contract.... A hell of a deal for Lombardi and the Kings. His next contract will DWARF that (I hope).

I'd like to correct myself regarding the cap hits of Cliche and Clune. After reading IB's blog entry from the 11th, it appears that while Clune and Cliche do count against the Kings cap, their full NHL salary does not count against the cap. For players like Clune and Cliche,
Quote:
(a) For the immediately preceding season, determine the number of Regular Season days the Player spent on the Club Active Roster, Injured Reserve and/or Non-Roster and on a minor league club’s roster.
(b) The number of days the Player was on an NHL Club's Active Roster, Injured Reserve and/or Non-Roster or minor league roster is then divided by the total number of days in the immediately preceding Regular Season to obtain a fraction.
(c) The fraction obtained in (b) is then multiplied by the Player’s Paragraph 1 NHL Salary and Paragraph 1 Minor League Salary for the current season, as appropriate.
Since Clune and Cliche didn't spend any time with the NHL teams IIRC, their minor league salaries are being counted against the Kings cap.
