"Confirmed" on La Zone tonight, negociations are going very well, and Komi should have a contract before the beginning of the season.

Note: this is speculation from the table of La Zone.

Still, if everybody got more or less the same info, it's looking good.

Souray asked for the moon, he didn't give it to him, the same will happen with Komi...
So keeping your player long-term is a managerial mistake if you somewhat over pay him? The alternative? He leaves and we have nothing.

Remember, the market we are trying to sign him is one where Hainsey got 4 years / $22.5M, Commodore 5 years $18.5M, Redden 6 years $39M, Streit 5 years $20.5M.

No way he gets less than $5M a year. And by year 2 of that contract it'll be a deal for us.

Slightly less than 5M.
See the thing with a long-term contract (say 5-6 years) is you don't pay the player for his current value, the value when he peaks in year 3-4-5-6. Using the logic of Komi (not reached his prime) is not equal to Hamrlik (in his prime) is a bit silly.

Great news!!! Hopefully Gainey will try to sign him to a multi years contract.. 8 years would be amazing.. I was expecting something like 6-7 millions per years but its probably between 5 and 6..

How about by July 1st when ridiculous offers go rolling out?

I'd be looking at a 4-5 year deal at the most. His style of play sets him up for injuries, though he's been relatively lucky on that front recently.

I trust Bob will get it done, and get it done right.

4-5 years max. I would rather have 4.

4 years - 19 mil

1st: 4.0
2nd: 4.5
3rd: 5.0
4th: 5.5

4.75 per year. Look at what Robyn Regehr makes and its around 4 per season. Regehr and Komisarek are very similar.

IMO if Gainey gets him to sign now, then it's a 7 year deal. I say 7 years, 32 mil. I don't think he'd agree to anything less than 6 years so early into the season.

Points are a major component of a salary.

Streit had a 62 points season with a previous season of 36 points.
Redden had a 38 points season, but also had 4 seasons of 40+ points before.
Hainsey is a crappy contract (although I'm pretty sure he has a 5 years $22.5M contract) but still he scored 32 and 34 points the past two years.
Commodore is another crappy contract, yet he got 29 points three years ago.

Like I said though, and like no one can come up with a name, there isn't any dman with a career high of 19 points making over $5M.

I don't know if this was mentioned or not but Pierre Rinfret from 110% had a chat with Komo at camp about his contract and without devulging any info Komo was kinda smiling in a sort of I can't really talk about it way but Rinfret could tell something was up.

I'm just so freackin happy that Gainey made Komi his top priorety before all of the other players, he is just way too damn important to lose, especially in our young skilled vulnerable offensive team, Mike is the perfect shutdown defensmen, there's not many players his size that has such great skating as he does, thank you Bob

What do you expect from one of, if not the best GM in the league.

Is he really? If so, maybe posters should have a little more respect for a journalist who takes his time to post here and maybe give us a hint or 2 when needed..... I know it would be appreciated.....

Marc-Antoine was also at La Zone yesterday or the day before.

In a mister Burns voice...*excellent* to get added confirmation on this.

Gainey hasn't signed a contract with a player for more than 4 years, so I think 4-5 years is what it will be. And I agree with you, 4-5 years gets Komi through his prime years (ages 27-31) and even though it's far away, a 4-5 year deal means his $ will be off the books when Price and Sergei Kostitsyn can become UFAs.

Like I just wrote, Gainey has never signed a deal for more than 4 years since he's been here....6-7 years would be surprising...

More confirmation...did he specify if that was recently? Komo a couple of weeks ago was totally against saying anything about talks in the media...

This is the one guy that we can't afford to lose. Komisarek is a ****ing machine and will just keep getting better. He hits to hurt people and is like a second goalie out there with blocking shots. I also believe he will be the next captain.

As for money and years. I'd love to see 6 or 7 years (that's the type of deals we are seeing these days). If he signs for that many years (all UFA years) then we are looking at 5 to 6 million a season, which is fine IMO.

I don't really care about the terms, just get him signed for several years and soon so we don't have to worry about it any more. To me it's one of the biggest concerns I have for the team, we can't lose Komi.

IMO Komisarek's the only guy Bob should sign at the beginning of the season.

Mike is just going to keep improving whereas Koivu, Kovalev, Tanguay, etc. all have to work for their money.

I agree unless one of those three are willing to take a serious pay cut for an extension.
but going into the playoffs with those three as UFA's should bode well for the Habs.

Mike K. must be signed for at least 4 years and be a focal point for the future of the team. He is the future captain in my opinion.

komisarek's a good d but dont think he should make more than markov. 4.5 - 5 mil / year sounds good to me.

You can't compare the two, Komi is a defensive defenseman while Marki is the opposite. While Markis offensive numbers were great Komis defensive #s were great eg. blocked shots and checks. So yes i believe they can aquire about the same payout.

Great news. If I'm BG I pitch that I can't pay Komi more than Markov, just like Detroit does with Lidstrom, and sign him to as many years as possible.
