If Risebrough calls Montreal -- he played with GM Bob Gainey -- he would likely want centre Tomas Plekanec, a winger like Andrei Kostitsyn or Chris Higgins, and D-man Mike Komisarek.

lol, we could have got 3 hossas.. or heck we could get a superstar.. for that price.. even Komi is ufa it wouldnt happen.

i'm happy to hear what risebrough would like but gainey won't trade a young core he's worked 5 years to develop for a ufa

edit it's an oiler reporter talking out of his ass

Our 1st line C, one of our first pair D and a young winger ? that journalist should know it's not going to happen... not when the Habs are going for the cup this season.

So, journalist is only saying what it may cost to acquire such a player, that is all.

Yeah, I just read that on Spectors...You forgot to add that this is just Jum Matheson thinking out loud.

you always want to deal from a position of strength.. and we have that right now..

I dont think its sundin (gainey said he showed no interest and asked no questions) but.. something smells in the state of denmark!
I happen to think that Gainey went out and got Lang as an insurance in case Sundin decided to not come to Montreal when he makes up his freakin' mind. Gainey said himself that Sundin has his phone number if/when he makes a decision. We're definitely not out of it. We could rather easily dump Lang. Having said that, don't bring your hopes up as I still think that Sundin will somehow join the Rangers.

Why so many scouts to see Dandenault and Kostopoulos? It doesn't add up. There isn't more than a handful of teams (if that) who would be interested in either of those guys.

Usually when trades of this magnitude are made, general managers feel most comfortable dealing with their closest friends.

Risebrough's circle of good friends includes Montreal's Bob Gainey, the New York Rangers' Glen Sather and Toronto's Cliff Fletcher.

Montreal makes sense. The Canadiens have lots of salary-cap room and lots of up-and-coming players and prospects. It would be difficult for the Rangers to take on a contract like Gaborik's without giving up Scott Gomez's $7.4 million-a-year contract.

Pittsburgh is another interesting suitor. After all, last season when the Penguins thought they had a legitimate chance at the Stanley Cup, they acquired Hossa from Atlanta.

Risebrough is keeping everything close to the vest. Would he continue negotiating into the season? He wouldn't say. But Gaborik's history of injuries makes waiting risky. The Wild could conceivably get nothing if he's hurt.

"You're talking about a step that I'm not necessarily at yet -- moving him," Risebrough said. "I'm probably more worried about his injuries and how it relates to his being able to perform than I am worrying about whether it affects his trade value."

I'm not buying the Gaborik cool-aid. It just doesn't make sense. The asking price would be ridiculous for a player who is scheduled to become a UFA at the end of the season, with no guarantee of re-signing him.

Why is it that everytime we think something is up, it's actually not....So there was a lot of scouts in Montreal, but do we know how many scouts there were everywhere else. That's the time when players are released, that players are traded to bring their lineup to what it has to be. Of course, there will be scouts in any place there will be games. I really don't see what the big fuss is all about.

Who's to be traded really from the Habs point of view???

I'd go all out in saying that it would all depends on who we'd trade for...

According to Eklund, Gaborik has told the Wild he will not sign an extension unless he is traded to a specific team. He thinks the team is one of Pittsburgh, Vancouver, Edmonton, Montreal, and Washington.

Here's a twist... the focus seems to be on Gaborik, but what if the trade was for Mikko Koivu instead, so that the Wild finds room to re-sign Gaborik instead? I know that they have room under the cap, but not all teams spend to the cap limit and who's to say that the ownership in Minny doesn't have a self-imposed cap? Plekanec going the other way?

Am i the only one who is really anxious for the season to start so we can talk about something else for a change. Like how BGL swamped Thorntons butt or how he anialated Neil in the corner.

That would be taking this thread off-topic.

I can't wait for BGL to annihilate Neil in the corner. Or, like, in the grocery store one day. Anywhere, really.

Whoever wrote that must be mistaken Bob Gainey with Ozzy Osbourne.

I know what's up!!!!

Grabovski is actually destroying the Leafs plan to finish last.....Leafs will trade him back to us!!!

Gainey is really a bad man. The only chance the Leafs can have the luxury in finishing last and get a real franchise player, he gives them Grabovski who'll have the season of his life.....bad bad Bob....

I'm a big fan of Mikko's and I wouldn't be completely opposed to this deal, but I would expect something more coming back for Plekanec.

Isn't it the type of material that Eklund writes every day?

Eklund's rumors are usually pretty fair for both teams (value-wize) they just rarely make any sense. Either due to cap implications, or because it doesn't fill a team's needs.

The only plays I'd make is on Gaborik, Kovalchuk or Bouwmeester at the deadline.

Who knows if it's possible, but I think we need either a prolific shooter or another top 4 D.
