Halak must be pretty loyal to the Habs, I'm surprised there were no offer sheets for him this offseason. He has shown enough to me (as a Sens fan) to throw a $3M offer sheet at him.

If it was`nt of the 7 000 000$ contract to Luongo, Gillis would have probably made an offer sheet to Halak

Any team wanting a starting goalie signed for next two seasons at 750,000...should be very interested. Gainey may trade him at next year's draft, where it is in Montreal, to move up and get a top pick, then sign a veteran free agent to backup Price.

Since LA and O'Sullivan are likely to part ways. I could verywell see Halak and some prospects traded to LA for O'Sullivan.

Except Montreal has no real shortage of scoring forwards, and nobody else in net except Price. Not saying it would make sense for LA either, mind you, since they have plenty of their own goalie-of-the-future types already (most notably Bernier). I think fans interested in a Halak trade should come back sometime around the end of the 2009-2010 season, and see what (if anything) has changed.

No other team is worthy of Halak's awesomeness.

While Halak is awesome, goalies are undervalued since there is such a small market for it. Huet went for a 2nd rounder and he's way more accomplished. A lot of teams have #1's or are developing their own..
ATL-Lehtonen
ANA-Giguere
BOS-Rask
BUF-Miller
CAL-Kiprusoff
CAR-Ward
CHI-Huet
COL-potential suitor
CLB-Leclaire
DAL-Turco
DET-McCollum
EDM-JDD or Devan Dubnyk
FLO-Vokoun, and they just drafted a goalie this year
LA-Bernier
MIN-Harding
MON-Price
NASH-Rinne, Ellis is still young
NJ-Possible, Brodeur can't play forever
NYI-How many more years on DiPietro's contract? 13? 14?
NYR-Lundqvist
OTT-Definately spot, but trading in division?
PHI-Maybe, but Biron is in early 30's
PHO-Bryz and montoya in system
PIT-MAF
SAN-Nabokov
STL-Maybe, but got Schwarz
TAM-Maybe, but got ramo or w.e and mike smith is young
TOR-Pogge, and montreal would never trade with them
VAN-Luongo
WAS- Possible, but they got Varlamov who was a 1st rounder 2 years ago

Halak won't want to stay behind price forever since he knows he can start, but not a whole lot of trading partners. Most teams are developing goaltenders anyways, and since getting some secondary scoring isn't easy, Halak probably won't get much. Burke put his backup through waivers!

The difference is that Halak is under contract and is only 23, with his entire career ahead of him. Huet was a pending UFA (who didn't re-sign with Washington, high risk) and he was 32.

I think that Halak could easily fetch an equal valued prospect (quite high).

Only retards who don't know hockey and can't appreciate

GAA 2.11 SV% .934

on a goalie thought he was crap.

But that was a minority.

There is no value in trading goalies right now.... there is a glut of them around the league... considering i expect montreal's backup to play 30 games at the minimum this year and the fact that Marc Denis was godawful last year, i'd rather have halak in that role.

I really don't see anyone giving up more than a 3rd rounder max for him and I think he is more valuable on the team than off of it for that price.

Dude... At last year's deadline, Halak was asked by EVERY team involved in the Huet trade talks. There was more interest towards Halak then Huet, Gainey said it himself.

This should be /thread on this topic for the season. Depending on how his 25 or so games go, he might start getting big headed and ambitious, but he ain't goin' nowhere this year folks.

And Marc Denis... poop. No matter what he does in the AHL this year... poop.

I know Im in the minority here but in all honesty if I had to keep one of price/halak, Id keep Halak and trade price. It will end up being like belfour/hasek (on a smaller scale).

+1

At the deadline, there should be interested for Halak because of injuries and poor performance. Right now, most teams are set.

no reason to trade him! he is a solid young goalie, and it is important to have a good backup. Who is going to play if Price is not playing?

i really like halak and i expect him to steal some games for the habs this season!

Halak is usually stellar against us, and so was Huet. I wouldn't mind seeing him gone

I'd say Halak is more of a Marty Biron case. And Biron brought a 2nd rounder, if I'm not mistaken.

Biron was set to become a UFA just like Huet last year !

Halak today is better than Roloson today... however he is not better than Roloson in 2006 when he was traded for a first.

Also the number of goalies in 2006 was a little less than it is today... and Edmonton was having major problems with Markannen, Conklin at the time and were desperate for a goalie.
