I doubt Denis is claimed - he was awful last season and I'm sure everyone remembers it.

Exactly... they don't want to lose Lappy, or dandenault or another vet for nothing right now.

Chips is up right now while Laraque and Bouillion are hurt.

If he is sent down, he will be okay... I guarantee he is on the team next year when some of our 4th liners are let go... dandy for sure via UFA, possibly Begin or Kosto.

Denis, due to his age & games played in the NHL must clear waivers before being sent to the minors. That's the way it's been for a while.

Who needs or wants him as a backup... they can't claim him and then send him to the AHL for their farm team. If they try this they have to offer him back to Montreal first. He'd have to be kept up with the big club. I really doubt anyone grabs him.

Fine with me. But again, it has to mean Lapierre moving to the wings, or Chipchura suddenly becoming more offensive to fill up the 3rd centerman spot so we could stick to the 3 offensive lines identity....unless we changed identity and go back with a 3rd shutdown line.

I think Lappy will eventually move to the wing.... it will happen next year probably, so Chips can take the centre spot.

I don't think we are changing our identity anytime soon.

We have for sure 5 offensive wingers who are relatively young and should be around for quite a while.... The bros, Lats, Pac, Higgins.... then you consider our UFAs Tanguay and Kovalev and i think one of those two, if not both is brought back. Still leaves us with 6 offensive wingers.

Down the road you have D'ags, Kristo, Trunev, and a number of other wingers pushing for the team.

From my understanding Denis didn't have to go through waivers to go to hamilton.

Well the news isn't surprising considering that both were expected to play in Hamilton. However, I just wonder given the way that Denis played in the preseason (not bad at all IMO), whether some team would actually claim him. He has the resume and a good enough contract for a team that is lacking a decent backup option. Hopefully we hang onto him, because I thought he was very good in the preseason, and I wouldn't worry whatsoever if either Price or Halak got injured, and Denis had to fill in for a few games.

That was my thought as well. He signed a two-way deal.

Two-way deals don't impact waiver eligibility, just their pay in the AHL.

And they said on RDS that he don't have to go trough waivers because of his salary in the AHL. Weird they have the opposite on their website...

Marc Denis in Hamilton is a very good thing. If anything happens to our goaltending tandem, knock on wood, I really believe that Denis could rebound from some awful seasons and play some solid netminding.

Now, Chipchura... ugh, Chipchura vs. Lapierre. Love how we turn everything into a contest. I'm to blame for this as well. I would prefer, prefer, prefer to see Lapierre play the wing instead of center. Last year I hated him at center but thought he was very reliable as a winger. Most pests play wing becuase it doesn't put pressure on the guy in the middle if you're off your position getting into someones fingernails.

I don't like dropping veterans with leadership and heart and I also don't like to get rid of players under 25 just because someone has done a little better than them. However, if it was my team, Kostopolous would be gone, Dandenault would be gone when Bouillon has returned, Lapierre would be playing wing when Laraque wasn't in or Begin was hurt, and Chipchura would be our bonified number four center.

That's my lovely little world, and you can argue how you feel about it, but its all up to Gainey and Carbo...

No, TSN is wrong, Denis doesn't have to go through waivers...he has some sort of special clause in his contract that he can go down to the AHL without being waived, that's what Renaud Lavoie said yesterday.

Ok, Lavoie was wrong then...

http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/261073.html

Now RDS is saying they are on waivers.

I think their exact salary in the AHL might impact it, but only for players of certain ages I think (if it is under 100 000 or something like that).

Someone with a better understanding of the CBA would be better off answering this. As far as I understand though, two-way contracts impact whether a player has a different salary in the AHL. Waivers is determined by games played and age - I think.

It's because of the number of NHL games Denis has played. Possibly his age, too.
