Now RDS is saying they are on waivers.
Yeah. It's in the CBA, and you can't make a contract that circumvents it.

Edit: Sirsumvent...the old reach-around.

nah, Denis has to go through waivers, he's played too many games in the NHL. That's the rule, it's the same for everyone, no matter what the morons working for RDS are saying.

You can act like a know-it-all and be snotty all you want, but there is more than just talent playing in such decisions. For your information (I'm sure you knew that though, right?), Lapierre, Dandenault, Latendresse and Kostopoulos all have to clear waivers if sent to the AHL. Chipchura doesn't have to yet. That's a huge factor when managing your assets.

So I'll say it again, Chipchura has outplayed Lapierre and that for a second camp in a row, but he could get shafted. Here's hoping that we can get rid of Dandenault (although improbable according to RDS) in order to allow Chipper to stay as he's a hell of a better player than Lapierre.

Sorry, you're absolutely right. Translating from my 3rd to my 2nd language is not always easy.
The idea was the same though.

Seriously, I really hope Gainey trades him while he might still have some value... Sad for the guy (not that I care), but I don't see any future for him with this team. Guys like him are raining in the hockey world. For my 3rd line centerman, I want a big right handed player that can skate and have some offensive skills... Chipchura doesn't fill the bill.

Now, time repair you're mistake Gainey and make the move. Put him in a package deal or whatever, but do something with Chipchura while some team might still want him...

Did the Habs win the cup last year?

Why is it that every journeyman veteran's job is somehow automatically safe?

It wasn't always like this.

In 1971-72, the Habs finished 3rd in the East and lost in the Cup quarter finals. The next year, some veterans were dropped and a 20-year old named Steve Shutt was placed straight onto the team out of Junior. He scored 8 goals playing 3rd and 4th line minutes. It's a good thing we didn't have today's philosophy: "Oh my God, we can't have this promising first round draft choice playing 4th line and sitting out occasionally! We MUST send him to the Voyageurs even if he is better than Chuck Arnason." Habs won the Cup in 72-73.

In 74-75, Habs lost in the semi-finals to Buffalo. Glen Sather killed some penalties and played a pest role. However, he was dropped the next training camp to make room for a 20-year-old rookie named Doug Jarvis, who scored 5 goals that year. The Habs won the Cup, though.

Now, I'm not saying that as rookies Shutt and Jarvis were "indispensable" to those cup wins (though Jarvis did play a bigger role, doing PK). But the team was hardly HURT by taking in some new blood after falling short the year before.

But apparently in 2008, things are different. Sigh.

BC, while I think Chipchura has earned a job, Pollock didn't have to manage existing contracts.

Personally, I see no use for Dandenault on this team. I'd like to see a younger 4th line than what appears to be the case.

I guess there are dircet questions. Is Chipchura better than Lapierre ? If yes, then is Lapierre better than TK ? As a teammate, I think TK brings something Lapierre may not. If Lapierre is indeed ahead of Chipchura, I'd like to know the reasoning. We won't, but I'm curious nevertheless.

She's dead serious.... she hates both Chips and Higgins for reasons none of the rest of us can understand... even if she has tried to explain them 2098901878498792 times... they still make no sense.

Hmm, the way that's worded, you're being begged for the 4th time ? For the love of God, acquiesce.

Higgins: Sergei Kostitsyn could be playing LW with Koivu instead, so Higgins has to go.

Chipchura: Could potentially take Sergei Kostitsyn's third line Centermen spot one day, so Chipchura has to go.

Pretty much.
