Gillis is really starting to put a North American stamp on this Vancouver Canucks team.
FINALLY...the Nonis years were dark ones in that regard. I think I could have found some SEL teams that were tougher and more physical than the Nonis Canucks.
I think Don Cherry's gonna like our team a bit more.
Heck, the only person he probably can rag on is Wellwood and he can't because he's an ex-Leaf and Cherry works for CBC which believes the only team that exists are the Leafs

Cherry practically drools over Wellwood, he absolutely loves the kid.
If that's the case, it'll just be due to perceptions.
Isn't that applicable to every trade?
I agree Krajicek would never have the chance to be 'that kind' of player here, and so moving him makes sense. I guess I just wish he could have been part of a bigger package to address a more pressing need. But perhaps I'm overvaluing Krajicek. Definitely like the addition of O'Brien.
I think Krajicek has established he is not going to be a PP QB. That was the original hope. He does not provide the enough offense to make up for his weakness in his own zone. On this team Krajicek was probably looking like a 7th d man.
More than this it seems likely that Krajicek will have big trouble standing up to the pounding defense man take these days with the interference rules being enforced. Think it was only a matter of time before Krajicek is back on the IR.
To me, it is better to have a durable, probably less talented player who you know will be able to stand up to the pounding d - men take.
O'Brien has decent skating and should provide better defensive coverage. Certainly makes the team a lot tougher.
I think Oullett, in the right circumstances can score. Simek looked to be very long shot prospect. Give the the Canucks a marginal advantage here
Demitra
Bernier
Johnson
Hordichuk
Wellwood
O'Brien
Davison
Krog
Nycholat
Ouellet

Save Demitra, it looks to me like he's added a bunch of average tough guys. Who won't do much when the scorers on the team are either: weak or injury prone.

Agreed, we could of probably packaged him with other assets and maybe manage to acquire a top 6
The only thing the Canucks lack is that mean streak/toughness from their top end players. Calgary has Iginla, Regehr, and Phaneuf in that respect and Anaheim has Getzlaf, Perry, and Pronger to do the same.
I know I've said it before, but I didn't like Krajcek at all. Too many give aways and dumb positionally. He reminded me too much of Sopel - I'm glad he's gone, and I don't really care who (if anyone) we got in return.

This seems like an unnecessary trade but oh well.
And it looks to me that you may lack a little bit of hockey knowledge. Calling Johnson, Wellwood, Krog, Bernier, Nycholet, and Oullet 'average tough guys' proves you don't know much about the game.

Krajicek was only ever an issue when his icetime increased due to injuries. When his icetime was limited he was fine.
Which MIGHT lead to Vancouver winning this trade. Krajicek is going to get much more icetime. The system he'll be playing will suit him though. It'll be interesting to watch.

Krajicek played roughly 2:30 of PP time a game and put up 11 points in 39 games. O'Brien played under 0:30 of PP time a game and scored 21 points in 77 games. As much as we talk about Krajicek's offensive skillset he didn't manage to produce with some fairly hefty PP time.
Oddly enough O'Brien is known as a PIM machine but he actually takes fewer minor penalties per 60/min than Lukas Krajicek. It doesn't get much press but Lukas takes a ton of penalties, especially for a guy totally devoid of any physical play.

awww, you can always be counted to put an emo spin on things. It's cute.
As much as I love Lukas and hate to see him go, he's moving to a system that fits his game perfectly. Shane O'Brien is freaking awesome though, and Ouellet will help the Moose this year more than Simek will (who has great hands, but may never put it together). I was at the draft in 06 and stayed long enough to see him get drafted, so I was rooting for the guy, but he just didn't show nearly enough in camp this year. Good luck to him -- if there's any team that will overlook his defensive warts for his sick hands, it's Tampa.

atleast he got rid of that dead weight that was Naslund

My bad, average players who are tough guys.

That or being realistic. The Sedins can be shut down quite easily, and the scoring defensemen have been quite injury prone. None of those players you mentioned are scorers especially when you compare them to the gritty players on Anaheim.

You do realize Markus Naslund isn't on this team anymore? There's no reason to spin Canucks happenings now to deflect how much he sucks anymore.

Which one of the guys named above is a tough guy?
I know you came in here to stir the pot. Either that, or you seriously know nothing about the game.

Isn't that why Krog, Wellwood, Nycholat etc are around for?
Are you really suggesting that the bottom six should be full of scorers just in case a top player is injured?
Where does Bernier fit in your reckoning? Is he weak, or untalented, or both, in your mind? Pyatt?
The reason everyone calls you emo is because you were once one of the most flamboyant fan boys here, but have been all sulky and whiny since Naslund left.
The absolute irony is of course that Naslund completely fits the mold of the weak player you all of a sudden seem to despise.
