This sucks, everyone I've spoken to about F1 in Montreal have always really enjoyed it. Hopefully I'll be able to catch it there some day.

That sucks. I used to be a big Formula 1 fan and the Canadian Grand Prix was always one of my favorite races. Who can forget moments like Jean Alesi winning his only race in a #27 Ferrari, or the Schumacher brothers racing each other throughout the 2001 race (not sure about the year), and of course the famous wall of champions. Sad. The Formula One management certainly hasn't done much to win any fans over in the past few years.. I hardly watch the sport these days (compared to 10 years ago, anyway)

Year in, year out, I just hate F1 more and more...

This sport is so disconnected with reality...
They run in places like Malaysia and Monaco but not in North America?

When everyone was always talking about Montreal being one of their favorite...

The nightlife was incredible during that week-end and everything was always sold-out...

Hardly surprising. Soon F1 will drop all their old GP in favor of places where the gov't is willing to spend billons to increase their visibility.

as long as the F1 is ran by that lunatic Mikelstone or whatever his stupid name is, it'll continue doing retarded things.

What made that particular race special was the fact that Jean Alesi grew up worshiping Villeneuve, and racing in his idols team with the same number was a dream come true to him. Quite fitting that he won his only race in the track named after Gilles Villeneuve.

Isn't there a NASCAR race also held in that circuit?

Wow that sucks, so much for them wanting to increase the North America market.

The Nascar is trying hard to get into Canada.. this will just help them.

And whoever said "a place like Malaysia".. there's a ton of F1 fans there, probably more than here. And it's far from a dump, it's a beautiful country.

Didn't they just renovate the paddocks for the F1?

just remembered.. last yr didn't the drivers complain about the condition of the track? could this be the reason why they're not coming back this year?

That is ridiculous, without any GP in NA, They'll loose an important market. They will loose an important fan base also, I believe that the real die-hard fans will remain and get up at 4am to watch a GP, but the average somewhat interested fan like me will simply stop watching.

I have the same feeling. These people live in their Ivory Towers and forget about the little people.

I'm done with them that's for sure. I guess Briatore got what he wanted and seems that he's not only one who wanted out.....

So that's it, no F1 racing in North America??
well there is only 1 way to get back at them for this.
Hit them where it hurts.

No race in North America= No airing of any F1 race into NA, so money, No Ad money, No F1 TV money, No more selling of F1 stuff at all.
Lock them out, Input a no fly zone above NA for anything F1.
Roll back any tax advantage for any NA company wishing to sign endorsement deals with anything F1.
Look into deals that import any Euro made cars ( those that are part of the constructors race part of F1) if this does not get resolved fast.
F1 wants to play games, then so be it.

Monaco is the oldest race on the F-1 calendar and it would be extremely stupid if they cut that one.

They have been expanding in Asia in the last years, and I have a suspicion that the ongoing financial crisis is to blame for the loss of Canadian Grand Prix. Didn't they almost lose it after Player's weren't allowed to sponsor it?

Don't remember if I read this here or somewhere but seems that Briatore said to a journalist that if there was one race he would remove, it would be Montreal for all sorts of reasons. Tried to get my hands on that interview but never was able to but I do remember that the person who brought that up was to be trusted....But again, don't remember if it was here or some place else....

Just seems weird, Briatore is a well known playboy and as far as I remember in terms of night life Montreal has always been second only to Monaco.. Oh well, he's very opinionated, wouldn't be surprised if he actually said that.
