Ryan Parent out 12-14 weeks

From the Daily News:
Quote:

The injury to Ryan Parent's shoulder could be worse than the Flyers first believed.
According to general manager Paul Holmgren, there is even concern that the young defenseman who seemed ready to step into a prominent role this season may need surgery and could miss significant time.

The decision will hinge on an evaluation today. Holmgren said previous examinations were not 100 percent conclusive, but there is a chance that Parent suffered a labrum tear in his left shoulder during a preseason game Sept. 25 against the New York Islanders in London, Ontario.

This is why we should have kept Berard. But Sbisa or Kukks works too i guess.

This is true, our record may not be affected at all if he misses a month or two right now. But Parent is the one guy that we need to be logging meaningful minutes early in the season for his development. That would be invaluable towards another long playoff run.
It may be wishful thinking, but many of us here are hoping for a Coburn-like maturation from Parent this year. If he misses significant time that could seriously derail those plans.

if there was ever a time for him to get surgery during the regular season, it's now. we actually have the depth to cover him for now, so get it done now. does the article say how long the surgery would take to recover?

That sucks...

I still wouldn't call up sbisa just yet. Let him learn for at least a few months in the minors to see how he develops.

Sbisa is too young to play in the minors. It's either NHL or back to junior hockey for him.

Not too late to sign Berard. I don't see Sbisa staying with the club past 9 games. The other issue is Jones being hurt. No Jones and no Parent.

Noooooooooooo this sucks. I was really looking for a big year from Parent this season.

Sbisa will get an even longer look now. I really don't think he's ready physically, but I think he could be ready to fill

Do we? We don't know that Randy Jones is going to be any better then he was. We don't really know what Emminger is (we're all hoping for Coburn II but hope in 1 hand and piss in the other and see which one gets full 1st). Vannanen looks solid and Kukkonen is better then Stevens thinks he is. I think we need Parent's stay at home ability.
I'm not going to be quite that dismissive about it. If he misses 4-6 mos I think that hurts. The 2nd bolded portion is how I feel about it. It means he may not get to take the step we hoped for this year.

Any chance Berard is back in the picture now? Wouldn't want to kill a year of Sbisa's contract now.

If you watch the videos from West Point and the team building exercises - all the guys are trying to stand on this little platform at once and Stevens is beside Parent. In order to do it, they're all putting their weight on each other's shoulders and Stevens says something like "is your shoulder ok?" to Parent as his weight is being put on Parent's left shoulder. Parent says yeah.

Point being, it can't be that bad.
