Khabibulin Situation

Can someone clarify what exactly the situation is with Khabibulin and how it relates to Barker? I'm not too familiar with the CBA/waivers/buyouts/etc, so I'm just wondering what to expect next.

Wouldn't the simplest course of action just be to place him on re-entry waivers, and pay him half his salary (instead of paying him his full salary while he's playing in the minors)?

Because you have to pay half his salary and take half his cap hit too. That is a tough pill to swallow for most gms to take. Paying a player and taking their cap hit for someone who isn't on your team. Most gms want to avoid that, especially for such a large salary.

I'm guessing Dale was gambling on the PA not opening the CBA and going back to a soft cap and it bit him on the ass.

Barker

I think Tallon needs to look in the mirror... This will clearly stall the development of Barker as he will not improve playing in the AHL. Barker closed the year strong and with better coaching can round out his overall game. If I were Barker I'd request a trade personally as I do feel he deserves to be in the NHL at this stage.

Due to the cap.. I can see a scenario when he is recalled as early as Sunday.

Teemu, that mosaic is incredible and sums everything up.

The situation is beyond ridiculous, I was really looking forward to Habby being gone and Barker starting with the Hawks.

If he didn't have a cap hit of $2.8 million he would be in Chicago's top-4 without a doubt. He spent the whole preseason playing with Campbell.

I've been following Barker for a while now, and it's things like this that piss me off. He's a great defenseman and I'm sure he'll be on the team soon. They just need to make some room.

"Savard claimed there was even a chance Khabibulin would start Friday's season opener at Madison Square Garden against the Rangers."

I'm sure the cap didn't help, but having watched barker the last couple years
i don"t think he will ever be more than a 5-6 defenseman in the nhl. I don't
care where he was drafted, he's slow and for being 6'3 225 he's not physical.
That's a bad combination.

Hjalmarsson is the better defensive d-man. I like him a lot more than Barker. No joke.
If we have to package Barker (should have been done already he did have pretty good value, Bulin and a 1st (Tallon is under pressure, will have to somehow overpay) for a 25-26 years old center, then be it!

Mostly slow. Because he did hit at the end of the season last year. The point is we don't need him. Another team does. Him and Bulin in a nice package, do it!
