I thought Niittymaki was still recovering from surgery? I cannot believe he played that well.

Who cares? The Phantoms are stacked this year.

Awful news about Parent, this was his year to make it...

Was at the game last night.

The coolest moment for me, besides the tribute to the cup teams, was seeing our ex-Nashville players (Timmonen, Upshall, Hartnell) make a point to skate over and shake hands with Terry Crisp as he walked off the ice. I guess they liked him as their broadcaster down in Nashville.

Wow...I'm surprised the Flyers lost to an AHL team. Literally.

Giroux is not an AHL player. He needs to be on the Flyers. Metro didnt play bad, but the line didnt play well. The first line scored a goal, but i felt like they couldnt get anything going after that.

If you mean lost, as in, they didnt play hard and wanted to make sure there were no injuries while working on chemistry and getting everyone a decent chunk of icetime all while the team on the other end feels they have something to prove and people to impress to try to crack the lineup at some point, then yes, they lost.

check the opening night roster, I think you will see he in fact is an AHL player. He did nothing to convince anyone he should be a top 9 forward as of yet.

Apparently he is because he didn't make the team, and based on pre-season play he wouldn't even be the first call up...maybe not the second either.

No doubt, I tuned in for awhile, no hitting , was just a glorified scrimmage, Nitty made some beauty saves though

Nodl and? Maroon? Matsu? I feel like this is an easy one and I'm missing it.

The game definitely would have had a much different outcome if the Phantoms played one of their goaltenders. It would have been a blowout if Aubin, Munroe, Teslak or Duschesne was in net for the Phantoms.

I dont see the big deal of the Flyers losing to the Phantoms. This game was mainly positive for me. Gagne scored a goal, which im sure will help him mentally. Nitty played well, so thats a plus.

There is no way the Flyers were playing as hard as the Phantoms. Also its gotta help the confidence of the young guys to beat the older ones who didnt put as much into the game.

Glad nobody got injured.
At one point gagne skated behind the net to waive an icing. I don't know who the defenseman was that went behind the net with him, but all I thought was the MoFo best net hit gags.

There was no hitting, no anything. It was all about the stuff before the game. Fun to watch, not really a big deal. With our luck, someone goes all out and ends up getting hurt. We already lost Ryan Parent to shoulder surgery for 12 to 14 weeks. Jones is hurting with a hip problem. It was like an All-Star game. Marty has been great in the preseason. So has everyone else.

Everything will be fine.

If we went by camp, it would be Nodl 1, Ross 2

Wouldnt ross be more of a 4th liner possible 3rd liner role? Say Gagne gets hurt, they might call up nodl first then if lupul goes down you think they would bring up ross before him. i think if upshall or downie(already has) then ross might fill int hat spot but I think they would bring up giroux first if we lost someone who contributes a lot of offense.

It kind of depends on who it is. If Cote or Asham get hurt, it might be Powe who gets the call.

Gotcha, you think when it actually comes down to it the will give it to whoever is playing the best at the time for the phantoms or do you think they have seen enough of Giroux getting pushed around in the NHL for now and would just go with Nodl?

Nodl looked good. Completely out skated Timmonen and they were both going hard.

Maroon looked GREAT playing down low like a p[ost up player. I know there was minimal hitting but he has good hands and really uses his body to his advantage

We could roll out a 4th line of giroux-masumoto-maroon

or not? as they'd get little ice time and a complete waste of their development.

definitley agree. you arent going to bring these kids up to the big club to play 5-7 minutes per game. it would only stunt their growth. if they arent a top 9 forward then they should be in the AHL getting top line minutes.

i guess the jump from the Q to the NHL was a little too steep for giroux right now. i wouldnt be surprised if he were with the big club come christmas/january though depending on injuries and whatnot.

Either way when all is said and done no one should be shocked that the Phantoms beat the Flyers. The Phantoms were being backstopped by an NHL goalie who may be recovering from an injury right now, but has an Olympic medal. We also have an AHL team with a lot of young talent on it, and many of whom are playing pretty well right now pushing for spots on the big club. Minor league teams will always play harder when facing pro teams trying to beat the big boys. Plus everyone knows that any team can beat another on any given day. At the end of the day it doesn't matter.

Yes that does suck about Parent. This is probably gonna be a lost year for him deveopmental wise. because when he does come back he is going to take some time to get his game legs underneath him
