Min-Ott

To Wild
G Martin Gerber
C Alexander Nikulin
San Jose's 1st
Right for Min to swap 1st round pick in 2010

To Sens
G Niklas Backstrom

It solves Ottawa's starting goalie problem and it allows Wild to put Harding in for 40-45 games this year while sharing with Gerber. Nikulin is a solid prospect and the 1st although low will allow the Wild to continue to stock there farm with young talent. The swap thing is just to add a little to the trade value.

Only if Backstrom agrees to an extension before hand.

I actually like the trade, I've thought this would be the kind of way Minny might go - making Harding their number one and having a back-up who can step in to help.

The 1st round pick hurts a lot, but seeing as how we're starting the season and it's not deadline, there's a chance to make this trade work.

How about the exact same trade with a 2nd, but a conditional 1st if Backstrom re-signs?

Done

But I question Backstrom's ability to still get the same numbers outside Minny's high defensive system

The thing is I don't mind the value of the trade, but here in Minnesota there is doubt about Harding being ready to go right now. He might need another year or two, and in that case we probably will want to sign Backstrom.

I just don't see this trade happening until later in the season if it was going to happen.

That's totally fair, but does Backstrom fit the budget if he asks for Huet style $$s?

Done as long as there's an extension in place.

Deal.

It's time to give Harding his chance.

I love the idea of Backstrom in Ottawa. We get a solid goaltender and only dish out a prospect that wants a trade, and an extra first rounder. If he had a good year here, i don't see any reason why he wouldn't sign an extension.

Get it done Murray.

I'm always weary of getting goalies from strong defense-system teams like Minny. I mean look back to when everyone thought Roloson and Fernandez were top notch tenders. Funny how that worked out for Boston and Edmonton. or how Lalime did after he left Ottawa.

It looks like we might have a pretty tight system too though. And wasn't Backstrom awesome in the World Cup?

This is the guy you'd want to roll with? How long an extension would you be interested in (hypothetically of course) and for how much? And where does that put Elliot?

Questions, questions, questions...but a good proposal.

Seemed like Roloson had a bit to say during that cup run. And Fernandez was injured. Just sayin'..

And I think Backstrom has some sort of limited no trade or no movement clause that's in effect until the deadline.

That's quite true, Roloson was a massive part of the Oilers' run. Him and Pronger anyway.

sorry but what does "Right for Min to swap 1st round pick in 2010" mean?

In 2010, if Ottawa's 1st is a higher pick then Minne's 1st, they can exchange their pick for ours and Ottawa would get the lower 1st.

I'd do this trade so long as there was some sort of extension in there.

If Minny doesn't like the look of the selections, or if the Sens finish too high, they can opt to take the pick in 2010 instead (I assume).

Deal. Though DR would never do it because of Nikulin. DR doesn't like Russians anymore.

I'd do this as a Sens fan but that probably means Minnesota wouldn't.

Roloson only led the Oilers to the stanley cup finals...

Lowe just made the mistake of signing a really old goaltender to a long term deal and it's kind of biting them in the ass now. That traded definitely worked out for the Oil.

I like it, as long as Fernandez is already extended.
