I dunno if he can get that much unless they are paying on potential. He's still a bit of an offensive question mark, and doesn't have the proven track record like Bieksa, Ohlund or Salo. I think people will be surprised at the money. I still think $2.5 - $3 million per.
Technically Bieksa got his contract after one year.
This deal makes a lot more sense if you think Gillis is actively shopping Bieksa. This would allow Gillis to deal Bieksa knowing Edler is signed long-term.

If we were to deal Bieksa, unless it was for another defenseman, I'd be worried. Especially after moving Krajicek, we'd be losing a lot of our back-end puck mobility.
I don't think Gillis is looking to move anyone for at least 15-20 games - see how his lines are working out, and then trying to rotate Wellwood into the lineup.
Of course, that's unless a great deal comes along. But most of those deals won't come until some teams feel like they need to shake their rosters up, which also won't come until about the 20 game mark.
I agree. Don't even think about touching that blueline until you absolutely have to. Bieksa does look like he's returning to form, which is GREAT news. Not even going to mention Ohlund - that giant beast.

I thought Bieksa still looks WAY too nonchalant with the puck. He seems a little TOO relaxed and almost careless. I think he needs to pick up his intensity.

thats how he always looks. The key to him is winning those one-on-one puck battles down low in the defensive zone.

I dunno. He didn't look in tip-top form yet, but he's getting there. 25 minutes of icetime, +5, was getting up in opponents faces at the blueline. I think we'll see the old Juice this season.

He has always looked that way. When he was our best defender, it was interpreted as confidence. Last year, it was viewed as carelessness. I don't think it's an intensity issue.
