He won't be worth it in many hockey pools, however.

In order to warrant a 7mil per year deal then you have to be more than just a defensive defenseman. His offensive abilities are almost non existent over the last 5 years only averaging 14 points a season (over the last 3 years). A $7mil dollar contract would put him at, near or above the likes of Zubov, Boyle, Phaneuf,Lidstrom and more players who are better overall. With that said i could see him getting around 4.5-4.8 per season.

I would agree with you with the other stats but +/- is not entirely a strong stat for him.

07-08 - +9
06-07 - +7
06-07 - -1

Pretty much all of his comparable players make about $4M. A little over that would be what he should fetch from the Habs. $4.5M tops.

Considering he's probably worth about 5M he'll get like 6.3M

He will also compare himself to phillips, jay mckee, orpik , scott hannan, volchenkov. All of these guys make 3.75 and more. His agent will claim that he is better than all of the above and that he provides the same type of play as hamrlik who is on the team, plus the fact that he will become a UFA.

Anything less than 4.75 M for Komi is not gonna happen.
Hamrlik was coming off a 38-point season when he signed that deal, and was actually on the UFA market. I have no doubt that in July Komisarek signs a $5 or $5.5M deal. If he's signing now it's closer to $4.5M.

Mostly just goes with the quality of team he's on. This is the first season in a long time the Habs are expected to be a strong team, with better 5-on-5 scoring depth coming along all the time.

I don't think +/- means much in isolation, but anyway, past +/- is doubly meaningless for Komisarek in that in addition to the Habs just getting good, he's also really just coming into his own too.

Tops? So... if the Habs offer him $4.5M and he declines, you'd let him walk?

I could totally live with Gainey giving him a longterm deal at $5 million per....i'd give him a bit more too if i had to.

The guy brings a ridiculous amount of intangibles to this team. And im still a believer that he has some untapped offensive upside to his game. Not to suggest that he will put up huge numbers, but i could see him settling in nicely in the 25-30 point range per season.

That isn't what I said. $4.5M is the most I realistically see him getting in a contract if he were to sign in the next week. But to answer your question, I'd have to think about it a while and do projections for the other players I've got to get under contract. He's not unquestionably worth $5M+ to me. I think that's a lot to lock up in a player that provides little in the way of transition or offensive ability.

I would say 4.5-5, maybe 5.5 if a team is desperate.

Fair enough, that's your opinion. That being said it is his best/only comparable. You can find others that would fit the bill - but you won't find many being paid more than 3M.

Knowing your posts though however (which I enjoy) you will probably bust out the stats on me and prove me wrong. Have at it!

Volchenkov is pretty consistent, coming from someone who's watched almost all of the games he's played.

Komisarek is a rarity these days. I think he would push upwards of 5.5 - 6.

With almost no offensive ability? I highly doubt it

You are right about rarity...most D men are well round but IMO he is not.

Komi skates well for a big guy, but he is by no means the fastest guy out there. I wouldn't give him much money on a long term deal, since it may be a matter of time before the speed of the "new NHL" starts to burn him. Somewhere between 4.5 and 5.5 million per year depending on the length of the contract is just about right if he hits the open market.

he would look amazing in a kings jersey. especially with gauthier and odonnel gone after this year.

it would give teubert a little more time to hone his game.

There is no amount of sarcasm I could convey in written form that would indicate how strongly I disagree with what you're saying.

So I'm just going to respectfully disagree with that last comment of yours

I can see Komi signing for 4 years/20m. Hes not going to be the highest paid defenceman on the Canadiens (Markov at $5.75M i believe)

4-5. Not much of a difference between him an Orpik.

I'd like the Leafs to go after him, make him an offer of 5 mill per. Sure it's a bit of an overpayment, but worth it in my mind for what he brings to the table.

Really? If the Habs were to resign Komisarek to the same salary for long term, would you make a Komisarek for Orpik trade?
