Gillis is gonna need to give several players due raises in the next few years. For example the Sedins and Burrows deserve raises next year. Then in the few years after that, guys like Raymond, Kesler, and Hansen (as long as they keep improving) will need bigger paychecks. This is why I'm wary of going out and signing a big name player like Gaborik. While it would be awesome to have him here, the Canucks finally look like they have a solid young core forming and it would be nice to be able to keep the bunch. Just look at Pittsburgh's situation. The Canucks are not even comparable to the Penguins as far as talent goes but the principle is the same; they formed an amazing core and before Shiro could say Stanley Cup he had to let go of some key parts because of the cap. I really look forward to seeing how Gillis handles the salary cap in the coming years and how well he manages the core of this team.
