IMO the only thing holding that back from being a possibility on the Canucks side is that Kessel might not fit the piece we're trying to acquire - a RW with size that will create space for our 2nd line.
I have a hunch that Edler might not be enough to land Kessel, never mind having the Bruins add something. It's just a hunch.

Too much homerism in this thread. Edler is already a very good top 4 dman with top 2 potential. Kessel has top line potential. Would be fair value wise (admittedly Bergeron or Savard would be a bit much) and to think otherwise is absurd.

Quite frankly, I think that trade straight up is realistic and fair(although it won't happen due to Edler's new extension)

I didn't say it wasn't fair, and yes, Bergeron or Savard would be more than a bit much.

Chiarelli has said a few times what he thinks about kessel, he said he wouldn't trade him for Hossa last year at the deadline. Half way through the season, if Kessel has not had the kind of season that the B's brass thinks he should have, then I would think they may be open to a trade, but they have said on more than one occasion, they don't want to trade Kessel.

My hunch that this trade won't happen has less to do with the value of who is coming back and more to do with reading Chiarelli's comments in the newspapers.

And why would Edler be traded when he just signed a contract? He is probably very well liked by the brass in Vancouver and they are probably very unlikely to trade him unless they are sure they are getting the better deal.

It may be a fair proposal, I still have the same hunch I did before: Kessel isn't going to be traded for Edler, especially if they have to add more to make it happen. It's just a hunch, but at least I have a couple facts that I base it on, it isn't just who I think is worth more.
And, by the way, as of today, Edler is worth more. Kessel may be worth more by the end of the season if he plays like he did in the playoffs last year.

Whether it's fair value wise or not, I don't know, but Boston wouldn't trade Kessel for Edler. I suspect you'll say Vancouver wouldn't do the deal either.

Just don't think the Bruins-Canucks are particularly good trading partners; what the Canucks need or would be willing to give up for the Bruins can't/won't part with (ie., 2nd line center). Canucks could obviously use a *legit* 2nd line right winger - but not at the cost of Edler.
