Anze Kopitar agrees to 7-year extension with Kings

Per Rich Hammond's blog:

http://www.insidesocal.com/kings/200...r-kopitar.html

Quote:
If the excitement of tonight's season opener isn't enough for you, this should get you going...late last night -- very late -- Anze Kopitar agreed to a contract extension with the Kings. I don't know the length and value of the contract yet, and I'll be away from a computer for most of the morning/afternoon, but I'll do my best to keep everyone updated. Just wanted to pass along the good news...

http://kings.nhl.com/team/app/?servi...ticleid=386095

Quote:
LOS ANGELES The Los Angeles Kings have signed center Anze Kopitar to a seven-year contact extension that will carry into the 2015-16 season, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced Saturday. Per club policy, terms of the agreement were not announced (Kopitar has one remaining year on his current contract).

The kid's got a real future. He's extremely talented and with the guys around him he is going to have some huge numbers. His combination of size and skill is very valuable.

Good news I assume it will be at least 3 years so they have the top line intact until then

Makes you wonder how this got done so fast, yet it took all summer to get O'Sullivan locked up.

I'm assuming they were already negotiating, but the Kings didn't want Kopitar to sign first, then have the O'Sullivan camp use it as a comparable.

Yeah, but who knows how long he's been working on this....he could have had Solomon working on one or the other simultaneously.

Yay, more uncomfortable moments with him and Heidi Androl!

I'm guessing $5M/yr for 6 years. A slight discount.

I predict:
4 years = 5 mill per year
5 years = 6 mill per year
6+ years = 7 mill per year

It's sexual tension....give the kid a break, he's only 21 and she's hot. I can't blame him.

On another note, I'm kinda pissed about this because this means we won't be trading Kopitar for Brent Burns anytime soon. Drat!

Really good news for the Kings. Kopitar is only going to get better and as he gets better so will the Kings.

On another note this means that angry L.A fans looking for Lombardi's head (oooh boy have I met TONS of them) have to shut the hell up.

Wonder what he'll sign Jack Johnson to? (RFA next year)

I think it will be 7 years for 7 million

Great player and you Kings' fans are lucky to have a player like him and a GM like Lombardi who actually is pretty good
