Kopitar is good....but he is not $8 million/year good.....at least not yet.
i would imagine somewhere along the lines of Getzlaf with a nice kicker for UFA commitment... if i'm not mistaken, Ryan's deal takes him right TO UFA, which can get really ugly. so maybe Kopitar gets $6-$6.25 million per with an NMC in those final two years?

POS getting Kostitsyn money sounded reasonable to me too, but he really didn't come all that close.
Having said that, Kopitar has proven himself and he is committing to over twice as long, so... if he gets more than $43 mil, I'll be stunned, but I think between $40 mil & $43 mil is proper.

I think most of us are on the same page in this respect. If it comes back less than a 7 year $35 million deal or more than a 7 year $45 million I will crap my pants.

Are you kidding, if it comes back as 7 yrs $35 mil, I'm going to the same school Jeff Solomon is going to to learn that Jedi mind trick.
This is amazing because now whatever it is the bar has been set for contracts. It's also a nice sign that AEG has committed the money regardless of how this season turns out. It shows some more faith in DL's plan.
My head is swirling with excitement and I can almost taste a big UFA signing come July!

Lombardi has played a lot of poker this offseason, and I am very happy with the results. I'd still like us to have a better option in the bottom pairing than Gauthier and Priessing, but the season is just beginning, so who knows what can happen.
I'm going to go with a cap hit between 5.25 and 5.75 mil per year. He could be had for less, but not with sacrificing UFA years. He also probably took some discount, as he likes LA so much.
At this point we have no idea how much the contract is for.....If Kopitar is making less than $5 million/year he is getting hosed and the portrayal of AEG as cheap will continue.
