Is this a secret message? Kopitar to be traded before the new contract starts?

(You know I had to find something wrong with this )

So what do you think it'll come out as?

I'll still guess 7 X 7 because he's already real good and he'll get a lot better.

i would imagine somewhere along the lines of Getzlaf with a nice kicker for UFA commitment... if i'm not mistaken, Ryan's deal takes him right TO UFA, which can get really ugly. so maybe Kopitar gets $6-$6.25 million per with an NMC in those final two years?

I think it will be between $5 and $6 million a year......if it is higher than that I will be surprised.

POS getting Kostitsyn money sounded reasonable to me too, but he really didn't come all that close.

Having said that, Kopitar has proven himself and he is committing to over twice as long, so... if he gets more than $43 mil, I'll be stunned, but I think between $40 mil & $43 mil is proper.

I think most of us are on the same page in this respect. If it comes back less than a 7 year $35 million deal or more than a 7 year $45 million I will crap my pants.

My best guess is $6 million.

This is amazing because now whatever it is the bar has been set for contracts. It's also a nice sign that AEG has committed the money regardless of how this season turns out. It shows some more faith in DL's plan.

My head is swirling with excitement and I can almost taste a big UFA signing come July!

Who knows, come February we may be buyers for once!

So let's see -

Kopitar for 8 more years
Brown for 6
Stoll for 4
Sully for 3
Handsuz for 3
Doughty for 3
Moller for 3 (or 4 is he gets sent down)
Voinov for 3
Hickey for 4
Bernier for 3
Preissing for 3
Zatkoff for 3
Martinez for 3
Simmonds for 3
Frolov for 2

This coming off-season is looking less stressful already!

Lightning clouds are brewing....

+1

Lombardi has played a lot of poker this offseason, and I am very happy with the results. I'd still like us to have a better option in the bottom pairing than Gauthier and Priessing, but the season is just beginning, so who knows what can happen.

I'm going to go with a cap hit between 5.25 and 5.75 mil per year. He could be had for less, but not with sacrificing UFA years. He also probably took some discount, as he likes LA so much.

You just can't help yourself, can you?

It's for seven years. You think they got him super cheap?

Lombardi will have a booth at the home opener for some of you to line up and kiss his ass.

EDIT: Yeah, almost $7M per season. AEG is cheap and Lombardi doesn't know what he is doing. You haters can start eating your steam'in plate of crow, or something else.

If he performs like he does now, then this contract is pretty good.
