Lundqvist has played 1 game in the last 6 days..why does he need a rest? When your goalie is playing hot you keep playing him.
The team has filled up on confidence winning its last 5 games (preseason included)...the last thing I want is Vally going in net, playing like he did in the preseason, and deflating the rangers confidence. Especially vs a Division rival.
As for last year....we had Jagr dominating vs Philly most nights...so I really don't care about what has happened in the past.
I appreciate what you are saying and understand this year is different than last but like Sam points out, some guys are just good against certain teams. I think this move is made with an eye toward the upcoming schedule, rather than looking back at the rest Lundqvist has gotten the past week. After tonight, we have:
In that span, the only game Valiquette MAY get a sniff in is Toronto Friday night imo.
I'm a little surprised that there's so much criticism of the Vally move. We don't know how tired Hank might be after back to back games, a flight from Prague to NY, and then playing a game. We could well be better off giving him a rest, especially considering we have to play on Monday Wednesday Friday Saturday and Monday. Our hot start has given us a little cushion to work with so we don't have to risk burning Hank out early. Vally did very well against Philly last year and looked better as camp came to a close so I think he will exceed expectations. I'm glad to see Rissmiller in for Dawes, he can help on faceoffs and in the corners tonight. I wanted to see Fritsche as well but we didn't have a second player who played his way out of the lineup, so Dan will have to wait a little longer for his chance. That said, I want to see Nigel back in there on Monday, he owns Marty and that might get him back on track. If not, we might want to explore a conditioning assignment to get his confidence back up (does he really need to go through waivers??). Let's keep the momentum going and LGR!
