My opinion of Craig Simpson as a commentator went down hill. What is Carbo supposed to do? put out Dandy for the full 2 minute pp?
And if I was on the Leafs I'd have punched Blake in the throat for that ridiculous goal celebration in a 5-0 game. What a loser.
Awesome win.
you know what? I was saying the same thing to myself and I was gonna bring it up but i figure people would have said I was overreacting. I never liked him and that didn't help his case, not that he cares obviously :p
If Cherry was ever a good coach, he would realize that our PP had about 2 games of practice since the start of the pre-season. But since he and simpson suck at coaching, they don't realize it.
The encouraging thing: One of the flaws the 2007-08 team had was NEVER playing good games against bad teams, almost taking them too lightly it seemed. That's why they only split the season series with TB, ATL, TOR and lost to CBJ and STL last year. Well the 2008-09 team started off the right track with regards to changing that. We just dismantled them and it could have been 10-1.
Thoughts:
The PP was flat out unreal in that 2nd period.
Halak was very solid.
Latendresse should be a right winger. That argument is just as strong as the A. Kosty RW argument IMO. His pass to Hammer and his goal were scored on the right side. Much better game for that line.
Hamrlik is having a terrific start to the season. He looks like he'll put up a LOT more points than last year.
Almost unfair to think we didn't even have Higgins, Price, Bouillon and Laraque playing.
Well they are right from the other teams perspective. And the Habs did the right thing from there perspective we have to make sure we have great chemistry going on our new PP when we play better teams so we need to play them as much as possible early in the season. But if the roles were reversed we probably would have 2 thread about it on our board.
Everything about tonight was BEAUTIFUL. Great game. As a huge A Kosty fan though I would have LOVED to have seen him get a goal as well. Not complaining lol just would have made it an even more perfect game for me.
And an honest question for you guys:
Has Lapierre EVER passed on a 2on1? Even once?
Nope he is still in his Pee Wee state of mind ....puckhog
If this was mid-season, then Simpson and Cherry would have somewhat of a point, but this is the beginning of the season, new players trying to click and feel each other out. No better place to practice than in the game.
Mini owning Bruins also...so much for the AWESOME BOOOINS!
Awesome, but I just noticed Manny Fernandez is in net...I'd be much more elated if Timmy T was getting destroyed. But it's good to know Fernandez is a 4.3 M liability.
Screw holding up at any point. Goals for count in the final standings, in case those two jackasses don't know that. Goal differential could make the difference in the final season's standings. You NEVER hold up, EVER.
If you suck badly enough to give up more than 6 goals, you deserve what you get. The Habs were 100% right to rev up their PP.
Cherry on Coach's Corner: blah blah blah.. Leafs need to draft more Ontarians...blah no teams before Detroit won with lots of euros before...
Cherry after the game: I picked the Habs to win the division wow i'm so good.. blah blah.. Habs tried to run up the score by playing their first PP in 3rd period... Wilson remember it! blah blah.. I'm an old fool... blah blah

I think he used to, but he scored 1 goal last season by shooting on a 2-on-1. Ever since that goal, I don't think he has passed the puck lol
Halak played great, trading him would be a big mistake until after this season. Then a proper decision can be made.
S.Kost was great tonight, creating chances bashing bodies and scoring.
Lats made a pretty pass but he should be moved to a different line. Koivu fed this guy chance after chance all night long. He floats on that line, he doesnt hit like his size says and he wastes good chances that S.Kost would bury.
Brisebois did nothing but show how bad he can be, plenty of pinching when he shouldn't and bad turnovers.
