He seems to want to support the offense more this year.
Like.. A few times I've seen him cut to the front of the net or do forecheck, get good shots on goal from good places on the ice.
Maybe he wants Dandy's place on offence?
Hamrlik has always been like that. I was surprised last year he didn't do it that much.
Maybe it was Carbo telling him that since he's paired up with O'byrne/Breezer/Streit(last year), but he's always been able to put up numbers. He even had 60ish pts once.
Hamrlik is a gifted offensive defensemen who learned to play great stay at home play.
Now, if he plays with O'Byrne, who stays at home, he'll pinch in more often. If he plays with Brisebois, who pinch in often and sometime with great dramatic effect, he'll stay behind.
In short, he's using all of his skills with his head. He's a wonderful acquisition by Gainey.

Yea great acquisition indeed. I was a bit surprise to see him play very defensively last season, but i guess it was to help out. Of course i didnt complain about him not being more offensive since he was very good defensively.
With O'Byrne I think he trusts him more now to pinch. With Brisebois, he probably feels like Carbo should be playing another defenseman to make up for Brisebois brain farts.
yess.... my cousin and I call it "severe brain crampage"
OT- but O'Byrne will become a good defenseman. He played a strong game against Toronto and made passes that Komisarek was never able to do in his whole career. He's pretty good at moving the puck too.
Speaking of Komisarek, he's not the same player he was one year ago. He wasn't at the end of the seasn last year and it's the same this year. He looks lost at times on defense and he doesn't how as much grit as before.

Maybe he's feed up of grits and wants to eat something else.
