How Confident are you that Nedved will re-sign? And When?

I think most of us here agree that had Nedved beenthe Oilers #1 Center they would have not missed the playoffs. With Free Agency about to start and comments today tin the Sun that Lowe and Nedveds representation have discussed a deal how confident are you that it will get done and when do you think it will happen? day 1 of FA? 1st week? or later in the summer?

Personally I think everything is lined up for a quick signing I would say I feel something like 80% sure he will sign a deal in the first couple of days of FA, it will help Lowe setthe bar for the other guys that need to get deals done. what do you think?

I'm affraid to say what I think about this because I don't want to end up in Lowetide's backfire thread. Not because I'm affraid to be wrong, but because I really want Nedved to sign.

...what the hell, he will be an oiler by mid July.

Agreed. A couple days for Nedved to see if other extremely juicy offers come in, couple days taken up golfing for both Lowe and the agent, and then a day or two to finalize the deal.

Let's hope.

Ya, I'd think give it a week into FA - if we haven't got the deal done by then, there could be a little bit of worrying to do

I think it will be in a week or so, and he'll end up here for 3 years @ $9 mil with a $1 mil bonus.

Well, I trust Lowe, and what he's been saying is really encouraging. However, I haven't really heard anything from Nedved or his agent (besides that one quote a few months ago saying he was treated like a King here). Apparently Nedved's agent was really pleased with the offer Lowe threw out at the draft.

As of right now, Petr would be pretty stupid not to look and see. You never know, someone might throw $4.5 mil or so his way...

Probably around mid-July, enough for Petr to see how green the grass is in Edmonton.

I agree with you there, if we pass the 1 week mark I would get a lot more worried, hopefully it doesn't come to that.

I am still extremely skeptical he will re-sign here. That article said all the right things, but there are still owners out there with money to throw around and they could definitely do worse then P. Nedved.

Chalk me down for saying he will not play for us next year... although I desperately want him to. Seeing Montreal take on Bonk for comparable $ to what Nedved will earn for their 3rd line centre lingers in my mind...

I too am skeptical. If Nedved is willing to sign for a price the Oilers can afford, there are bound to be more than a few teams who could be interested in his services at such bargain rates: Colorado (if Forsberg jets), LA, TO (if Nieuwendyk leaves), Nashville, Columbus, Atlanta, maybe even Calgary if Conroy leaves, all are teams that could be looking for centers, just off the top of my head.

Why won't Nedved exercise his imminent UFA rights to get the best contract he can? There is no compelling reason for him to sign in Edmonton over any other club, even if he had a nice time with the Oilers during 16 games after the trade deadline. We're all speculating at this point, so this question is more of a personality test, I suppose.

I'm actually confident that he won't sign in EDM now. Thank Christmas.

I was worried ... but seeing how Lowe handled the Isbister contract (2-way offered) and the fact that the Oilers have announced who they will be trying to sign to long-term (and that Brewer is specifically NOT on that list). Bodes well for Lowe's future actions IMHO.

Time will tell.

All right - chalk me up for saying he will sign a two year deal with the Oilers by the end of July.

I cant remember who said this, but some time last month when this Nedved thing was being discussed, someone mentioned, that whether shes in NY, or Edmonton, she's gonna be travelling alot either way. Im sure shed rather live in a bigger market, but maybe she can become a local celebrity, she can be the official embassodor to the world for Edmonton, maybe even do some Photo shoots for West Ed, now that all the Dolphins are gone, we got all that water in there, and nobody to swim in it.

Or, maybe shes an old-fashioned stand by your man type of girl. an old-fashioned GORGEOUS stand by your man type of girl.

Why does this matter?

It's not like she is going to get any less work living in Edmonton with Petr.

It's not like she is some 2-bit model who needs to rush at a second's notice to downtown New York to fill in for the JC Penny's christmas catalogue.

Chances are, she has a good portion of her schedule already booked.

And Id bet that almost all of that work is in New York. When exactly would they see eachother?

Not to mention an agency that most certainly wouldnt want her in the middle of nowhere. Half of her job is going to parties and shmoozing. Thats how you keep your name out there.

How often do you think they saw each other during the season to begin with? And I don't think almost all of her work is in New York... I bet she does a tonne of work in the UK, France and Italy too... nevermind the shoots she does down south in South America.

Once again... she isn't some 2-bit model. It wouldn't suprise me at all if she had all her shoots booked for the next 6 months to a year. Her name isn't going anywhere. She probably will still travel to New York, and keep an apartment there, but it isn't essential that she lives in New York.

Judging by what you are saying, there are only 3 or 4 teams he can sign with.

Two-year deal plus an option adds up to three years. 9.0 million plus a 500k signing bonus for 9.5 total. Signed by July 9th.

The Edmonton Sun quoted his agent this morning, he said that Nedved has enjoyed his time in Edmonton and the was encouraged by the offer that was received.

He said both sides would be checking their options (I read that as is there a better offer out there) but he was optimistic that things could be worked out.

It was in a Brownlee article. I think someone provided a link earlier today.

Edited to add link: Just in case a few missed it.
