That's terrible. Did he have a pre-existing heart condition or was this just a freak accident?

I choose not to trust this blog for now and if it turns out to be a sick joke someone should sort the writer out.. shouldnt speculate with this sort of stuff anyway.

GET WELL SOON ALEXEI
Has all the makings if you ask me. I will remain skeptical for now, but at the same time if this is true I wish him the best.

Unfortunately it is not a blog... its a news source - and it is all over the news in Russia... Just spoke to one of the players on Avangard... hopefully it will turn out better than expected...

Bring him to the USA and let him get treated here when he feels better.

I'm literally praying for him right now. If the preliminary reports are correct, it seems that the collision with Jagr must have been just in the right spot to stop the heart.

This is unimaginable. Hang in there Alexei.

I agree that his life is what's important, but it is awful that such a talented kid won't get to live his dream.

I don't even know what to say. I'm in shock.

God i hope Alexei is OK.

I feel for both him and Jags. It is no ones fault.

The heart massage part means CPR, that's probably clear by now though.

Not talking hockey wise here, but odds are he'll be OK since he got out of there alive. Here's hoping to some good news soon.

I've been reading the russian news sources http://www.sports.ru/hockey/5945374....nts=1#comments and one poster claims that he is awake and very weak at the moment. That poster claims to have obtained the info from a relative within the hospital.

My prayers go out to Chery and his family.

When I saw this my mind just flashed back to when Luc Bourdon passed away. Initial reports coming out bad, all you could do was pray that they were wrong and that Luc was ok.

I pray Alexei is ok, we just have to wait for a reliable news source. This has me in total shock.

Wow hope he is ok...

And for the record, a hard thump to the chest CAN stop the heart if conditions are right. It's called Commotio Cordis. There doesn't have to be a pre-existing or dangerous heart condition. This is responsible for a few deaths in baseball where a guy gets hit in the chest with a ball.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commotio_cordis

If it was in fact commotio cordis, the fact they got his heart started again seems to be a great sign. This kind of injury requires IMMEDIATE attention.

Hopefully he is alright..

I'm sure WebMD or Wikipedia has some generic details on how it happens.
I saw a documentary 5 years ago about a football player who was hit hard on the chest and his heart stopped. They restarted it some minutes later and he survived.

"Career ending" shouldn't be entering anyone's mind. How about, "Life threatening." This is a 19 year old kid that could possibly be dead, or at the very least has his entire world upside down right now. Let's confirm this, see if he is ok, then get some info about his condition. Being alive > Everything else > Career.

I'm seeing all sorts of conflicting news reports right now on the status of his life. My prayers are to him and his family and I truly wish him a full recovery. Who cares about hockey right now? I hope that he lives to see a full recovery and a happy life. Things like this really always strike me so hard as it could have been any one of us with such a random thing like this.

A blog made that statement, but Russian media sources haven't had an update.
