He was not the best player on the wings blueline during the playoffs. Detroit lost Schneider and Kronwall to injury. He was a good fill in, but Lidstrom and Chelios played better then him easily.

Good pickup for the Kings. He can be shakey at times but has a good amount of upside and has proven before the be a steady defenseman (2007 playoffs).

He was also learning how to fight from Aaron Downey over the summer and he pummeled some guy in preseason so that's a plus. Likes to throw the body around.

He'll be a solid 5/6 for you.

Well its plus two for DL so far this week. I wouldn't mind seeing Gauthier get shipped, but that aint likely. I'll be glad if Quincey can do what is expected of him. Its pretty certain Gauthier can't!

Just our yearly waiver claim from Detroit. Move along, nothing to see here.

That's the first thing I noticed when I looked over his stats on TSN. Guy seems brittle. The other thing I noticed is he has played in 13 playoff games with Detroit. I think you just hope he steps in and turns into a star, if not oh well.

brittle?

he played a total of 72 games between the Red Wings and their affiliate last season and a total of 71 the season before.

he's averaging 70 games per over the last three seasons between the two clubs and played 13 games in the post-season with the Wings in 2007.

i don't know from "brittle."

So is it fair to call him Matt Greene Lite?

Dude, take it easy. I said he seemed brittle from the injury history. Just to be clear have you ever watched a Red Wings game and focused on Kyle Quincey cause I haven't, thus the word seemed in my observation of his TSN page.

Ask Wabwat, he's the Quincey expert, knows everything about him.

Scouting Report on Quincey

Assets
Displays all-around ability and owns a very projectable frame. Skates well and is not shy about throwing his weight around.

Flaws
Is still somewhat raw, and needs to round out his game. Consistency remains a hurdle that he must overcome in order to see regular NHL duty.

Career Potential
Top 6 Defenseman

You can probably change that "if" to a comma.

No one gets sent down , Johnson is hurt.

Define "top 6" like NHL quality or just the first 6 guys you dress.

I think you may have a discrepancy there.

I believe that the Kings do have 6 legitimate NHL defenseman, the problem is that they are all 4-6 and not 1-3 defensemen.

Yeah, the Kings may end up dressing 7 d-man and just spreading minutes around as best they can, no one on this roster is ready or able to handle 20+ minutes a night and do it competently. But we have handful of guys that can play decent for 12-15 minutes a game. The Kings have to figure out a way to have a top d pairing by committee or else they are boned...seriously boned in a very painful fashion.

Good pick up for you guys. I always liked Kyle, just couldn't crack the depth on
our blueline. He's potentially a lesser version of Craig Rivet, but should be a # 5-6
type dman in the future.

I think that getting someone from a winning franchise is only good for the team, and getting someone completely free is even better

The youth is an added bonus

I think a pairing with him and Harrold may be effective

possibly Preissing as well?

Have you seen our defensemen? Everyone's a 5/6 on this team. We need 1 thru 4
