The area of the labrum where the SLAP tear occurs is susceptible to injury because it is an area of relatively poor vascularity. Other parts of the labrum often heal more easily because the blood supply delivers a healing capacity to the area of the tear. In the area of SLAP tears this is not the case, and chronic shoulder pain can result.

Johnson's next contract is going to be fascinating. Does he get a one year QO to prove himself worthy of big money? Does Lombardi sign him long term after an injury-shortened season, especially considering his career high is still likely to be 11 points?

That is scary no matter how you spin it.
How's this for spin: do you like Hedman or Tavares?

I would not hold my breath for either one....knowing the Kings they will finish 29th and the 28th place team will win the lottery.

I wish Jack a speedy recovery. This is not a good way to start off the season

McLaren

With Johnson down for 2-3 months, Any interest in McLaren? He could wear jersey number 4 which I know would make a lot of you happy. That alone may be worth it to claim him.

Yikes.

I had surgery to repair a SLAP tear in August (my labrum was 60% torn) and my doctor said I'd be out 6 months. I also had a detatched biceps tendon, which contributed to the long recovery time. Hopefully Jack really is back in 3 months. I'm a little over 2 months post op and can stickhandle now but am unable to raise my arm over my head. If I were to play and take a hit, I'd be screwed.

I also had shoulder surgery a few years back and was out 6 months. All the best to Jack. He shouldn't rush it. If he ends up missing the whole year no big deal. If he is in camp 100% for next season that would be great. Next year should be the year that the Kings make a serious run at the playoffs.

He'll be back by February if all goes well and we'll still have a good 2-3 months to evaluate him. It's not about this season anyway, but it would have been nice to have him out there. :\

How do you negotiate his next contract now? I don't believe that Lombardi would accept a 1 year deal (just like O'Sullivan) and I doubt he will pay more than $2 million per year based on potential alone.

Does anyone see Jack taking less than $2 million per for 3 years?

Umm this pretty much [B]is[B] the end of the season as far as I'm concerned. We have to replace over 20 minutes a night with the remainder of the d-men the Kings have signed...I'm cringing at the thought of Greene, or preissing, or Quincey playing over twenty minutes a night. TH Kings will once again be bottom of the barrel and should be well out of the playoff race by the time Jack returns.

Oh, well there's always Hedman...

Well, crap, it is what it is and everyone has to deal with it.
1. JJ must be very disappointed. I feel really bad for him. But, this is another challenge for him, the same as many other players have had to face. I hope he can heal within the 2-3 month prognosis and comes back when he is 100%. His priority is himself, not the Kings or the fans.
2. I wouldn't even talk about contracts until the season is over and JJ and the organization can evaluate the situation. Here's to hoping this is just a very untimely glitch in the overall plan.
3. Looks like for the second year in a row our best defenseman might end up being our youngest. Drew Doughty, those 23 plus minutes he played the other night might be just a warm up.
4. Kyle Quincey is a decent pick up and Peter Harrold hasn't had a chance to play yet. Plus, who knows what might come up as the season goes on.
5. I hope everyone can just take this as the challenge and opportunity it is, and not the end of the world, or the season.

The good thing about this situation (if there is one) is that it allows someone to step up. Who knows, we could have someone who just breaks out and comes out of no where to tears it up.

This is really bad... one of our best defenseman is out for three months

This also is one less year for him to develop, and we all know that he needs to step up his game

Hopefully he comes back fresh and ready to win, seems like all we can hope for

I'll be VERY surprised if he's back that quickly.. especially since the season is likely a wash there's no need to rush him...

It's true that it's never totally pain free but it rarely cause any issues whatsoever to functionality.. You learn to live with it and in many cases there is no pain.. I'm sure Vinnie will still put up 80+ points with it...

Chara also had surgery in the offseason to repair the same type of injury, FWIW. Jack will be fine long-term....just going to take some time.
