I wouldn't be surprised if the entire team doesn't even know what happened...Remember this news is fresh and these guys have game day schedules they follow.

I sure the coaching staff is aware, but the player? I doubt it.

I really don't even know if I'll watch the game tonight. I probably will, but I certainly won't enjoy it.

Win it for the kid, though, guys.

Win it for Chere AND Jags.. If the rumours are true its devastating for anyone to go through, yet alone happen to someone who idolized you. I for one, am sad about both situations...

I'd be VERY surprised if the players weren't the first to know. Also, keep in mind the amount of TVs, blackberries, laptops etc in use today. Many players may take an afternoon nap, but they certainly don't live in padded rooms when they aren't playing.

IMO, they shouldn't be playing this game tonight.

But for one night, I can say Go Rangers. Win it for Alexei.

So sad.....

The KHL season had already started by the time NHL training camps started.

I don't think any of the current Rangers knew him beyond meeting him for a bit right after he was drafted last year.

Honestly, we're probably more emotionally invested in him than the current Rangers team. I can't imagine anyone wouldn't feel bad about this, but I don't think it'll be so emotionally shocking that they will have a hard time playing the game tonight.

Hopefully this game can start the healing process here... Pretty sure the players feel bad, but I doubt that they're as upset as we are. A little scared, maybe, as this reminds you how dangerous hockey can be, but I doubt they had much of an attachment to him.

The game seems so secondary to the bigger things in life right now, but I feel like we should go out there and play on through the pain and sadness.

Let's pick up where we left off and win it for Alexei!

While Chere was a Ranger, he may not have come into contact with many of the Rangers and thus they wouldn't really "know" him. I would think, of course, that since he is part of the Rangers family, this will deeply affect the players on the ice, and I'm sure the players on the Devils will be somewhat affected since this is a kid in the hockey world and this may've been a freakish on-ice tragedy that affects all players in some way. I may not even watch tonight's game and while the results count towards the tally at the end of the season, I don't know if there would be any takeaways, positive or negative, from a game that could be filled with some emotions (in other words, I wouldn't magnify a Zherdev turnover).

Don't feel right about this game tonight.

I hope they honor Alexei tonight, at least.

I'm gonna watch tonight but I have nothing left, i'm totally gutted from this news today. I cant even begin to think about cheering even if we creamed the Devs tonight. Cherry dying is so much bigger than the results of one game.

Guess the healing has to start immediatley cause this is just the worst feeling, to see a kid with a spark in his eye go out so quickly.

I hope they don't beat around the bush and give it straight, maybe they know something we don't to clear some of this up.

Sabres fan, can someone tell me what the Rangers do for Alexei? A video tribute, a moment of silence, anything. Thanks.
