NCAA:
- Finley an assist, a -1 in NoDak's opener
- Glass scoreless in the same game for BU

USHL:
- Burke didn't dress against Chicago. He was just named one of Cedar Rapid's alternating captains for the season
- Bruneteau with two goals in a loss to Omaha. (Jake Hauswirth had a hat trick for Omaha and was named first star.)

I really liked that kid at development camp, hopefully he comes back to development camp next year.

Going to be a fun year in prospect land. Really have to take everything back I've ever said against GMGM in drafting. I finally submit.

Burke did not play

NCAA:

Carlson looks so damned good, and young. Great to watch him developing. Hell of a pick, at this early stage.

I'm excited about Carlson too, but I thought the same thing about Nolan Yonkman. I won't get too optimistic till JC has a big year at Hershey

Kugryshev scored a goal tonight in Quebec's 7-1 win, but he might get suspended for a couple of games because at the end of the game, he hit a spectator with his stick.

John "Muthertruckin" Carlson

5 points in 5 games, playing 30 minutes-ish a night as an OHL rookie... and being counted on as THE shutdown guy for the Knights.

hard to believe he is the residue of Eminger... if he turns into 1/2 the player he looks to be, its an amazing value for what we traded to get him.

Québec Major Junior Hockey League

Hot team: Québec Remparts
The Remparts are on a tear, having won their past eight games. Québec saw their streak nearly end Friday as they erased a two-goal third period deficit to win in a shootout against rival Chicoutimi. Russian import Dmitri Kugryshev and Benjamin Breault provided the scoring for the red-hot Remparts.

Hot player: Dmitri Kugryshev, Québec Remparts
The Russian sniper has given the surging Remparts another dynamic offensive weapon this season. Kugryshev scored twice with three assists in five games this past week with a plus-3 rating. His production has been clutch this season as he scored the shootout winner against Chicoutimi and assisted on Kelsey Tessier’s game-winning goal against Baie-Comeau on Sunday.

Was the spectator a French Candian?

some WHL updates:

Seabrook first star of the game with 3 assists and plus 1 in Calgary's 7-2 win (the younger Schultz picks up a Gordie Howe hat trick)

Leffler with 2 assists and plus 2 in a 7-5 win

Holtby in goal for a Saskatoon 3-1 win; unofficial - Saskatoon outshot Swift Current 41-16

"Calgary's local tough-guy Ian Schultz put the Hitmen on the board in the first period on a powerplay, corralling Keith Seabrook's point shot with 13:54 elapsed in the frame"

article about the Hitmen win

and more about Seabrook..."I've got my confidence back up," the Washington Capitals prospect said. "Last season, I was playing catch-up after that injury and I didn't feel like myself. "But I'm feeling good now, and I'm playing more of an offensive role."

I'm glad to see Seebrook playing at a higher level this year. He's raising my hopes for him from the Guggisberg (who?) to the Patrick McNeil range, ie decent prospect but not expecting anything.

Just as long as he doesn't pull the tongue off of a mascot he'll be OK

Finally, it looks like he only hit the glass...

And he missed his first SO/breakaway of the season yesterday.

OHL: Della Rovere with a goal in a 5-4 loss

NCAA: fyi, don't forget about hockey on cable regional fox channels, on FSN, if you have the sports package; Friday night Minnesota at St Cloud (they play Sat at Minnesota)

Dunn expected to backup Weslosky for SCSU and Larson isn't expected to play early in the season for Minnesota (and as many know G. Roe from VA plays for SCSU)

"Lucia said he’s told Larson to not worry about playing during the first part of the season, but to concentrate more on getting his body back to where it needs to be. The former Hill-Murray star didn’t play hockey at all last season but decided to start playing again this season, but Lucia said he was actually impressed at how far along Larson is compared to where he thought he’d be."

link

nothing exciting, but a short audio interview with Larson

Larson audio

DeSimone, UNH

"Phil DeSimone has a lot more confidence this year," said senior co-captain Greg Collins. "I think he's going to be real good. He's lost some weight. He scored a lot of goals in captains' practices."
