Let's Go Back to Crosby's Draft Day..

What would it have taken to get that pick off of Pittsburgh's hands?

All the money in the world.

Crosby pretty much saved the franchise.

Not even worth discussing, nobody would have offered what it would take to get Crosby, Crosby means more to the Pens than just his performance on the ice he is half the reason the team is even still around.

There was absolutely no chance in Hell. Not for anything.

He saved the franchise.

We all knew Ovechkin would be a great player, but he is better than he was projected to be (at this time frame, at least)

Probably would have taken Ovechkin, Top pairing defender, Top 6 center, prospects, and 1st, 2nd.

SHOOT ME AND I SHOOT YOU LOL

I honestly don't know.

He didn't have a ceiling before draft day. His junior stats were something nobody had seen in a very long time.

I honestly don't think any team could offer something for that.

Alright, we'll say HYPOTHETICALLY if the Penguins were not in trouble of moving, what would it have taken then.

Being as he was/is the most hyped up player in the world, I'd say a superstar forward (Iginla, Lecavlier, Thornton), a top pairing defenseman, a top six center, and a few picks. Still, there was no chance in any scenario.

In hindsight, the Panthers could have offered Luongo, Bouwmeester and their 1st.

Yes and considering the chance of that pick being traded was nil the "value of" the pick is meaningless and hence may as well be nothing.

Probably a package like Philly gave Quebec for Lindros, although I think that would be almost impossible to put together in today's salary cap era.

I'd throw a package of about 5 underperforming habs from 05 along with a mid round pick in 09/10.

seriously though unless you could go back in time and trade another "THE NEXT ONE" type player ala Lindros, Daigle, etc pittsburgh wouldn't bite
