Hospital Bills from the countless heart attacks when Pen's fans realize that they won the draft lottery: $127,225,936 dollars

Crosby signed jersey's that day: $1,246 dollars

Crosby's newly signed contract with Reebok: $167,938,273 dollars

The look on the Pen's faces when they found out he was not the next Gretzky: Priceless

I think the better question would be "What if Crosby pulled a Lindros and refused to play for Pittsburgh?"

The Nordiques/Aves got a ridiculous amount of talent for Lindros which made them a a better team. I mean look what all that talent did for the Nordiques/Aves and look what Lindros did for Philly and every other team he went to.

Everybody has a price IMO.

rumors had Habs making an offer for the 1st overall pick.

Anyone have an idea what it was?

I wouldn't give all that for him right now even.

I'm sure Gainey called....and I'm sure the Pittsburgh GM said "Bob, don't bother".

So why post in this thread? It's hockey related and the topic clearly identifies the context.

SHOOT ME AND I SHOOT YOU LOL

Actually good point but if I were the Caps I wouldn't do that. Crosby isn't much better than Ovechkin. Talent wise they both would have saved any franchise. If Pitt had Ovechkin instead, I am sure he would have saved them just as much. Offering Ovechkin and a top 1 or 2 D man who is in his prime would be enough.

One or the other doesn't stand out as more dominant than the other and they are both extremely young. I think Crosby works good on the pengs and Ovechkin fits the Caps style.

I think this is the most likely scenario. Crosby's hype was similar to Lindros when he was selected. Both were untested but sure-fire selections that were destined for greatness. A deal for Crosby would have been similar to the deal for Lindros.

Ovechkin had not played a game in the NHL at that point and he was never predicted to be even remotely as good as he is now (by some accounts)

People weren't thinking that Crosby and Ovechkin would be near equal in skill set a few years ago. It was Crosby ..... and then Ovechkin. Sad fact.

That's why I said it would take much more than Ovechkin and a Defender for Crosby. His hype was at an all time high, just drafted first overall, and by 9 accounts out of 10, he was the far superior player.
