For me it's not that they are losing, it's that they are getting outworked. They are still horrid in transition. Look at colorado in their zone, getting it out and look at us. Their forwards stay in the zone and use quick passes, and (OMG) they skate the puck in. Partially because we let them, but also because their mentality isn't hey lets dump it in and not get it. Its Stevens 3rd year, and they are still completely clueless in their own end.

While i'm not blaming Biron for any of the losses, you can easily point out at least one goal in his 3 games that he should have had. Everyone needs to play better, and something needs to be done to get Carter going. Knuble just isn't cutting it. Downie I thought was solid, and at some point call someone up and give them some minutes. Giroux, Nodl, hell get Maroons fat ass up here. Gotta do something to find a spark.

Did they not play with legos before the season this year or something? Sheesh.

Wow, the forwards were just awful tonight. They couldn't get anything going. Sure, it didn't help that we were in the penalty box for a third of the game but jesus! I really only remember seeing Richards and Gagne. Nobody else showed up.

Gah. I don't wanna lose the next four to SJ and NJ.

How about starting with Frank the next match? He's been very solid in when he has been on the ice. Biron 82.4%, 3 losses, 5.74gaa. It cannot really go to any worse. When Niitty came in against NYR the whole team woke up and you guys nearly caught rangers.

From the Friday Philadelphia Inquirer
Quote:
http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/...ss_Flyers.html

After the game, Stevens met with captain Mike Richards and alternates Kimmo Timonen and Simon Gagne and voiced his displeasure with the club. He will meet with many other players Friday in San Jose. They will not be touchy-feely conversations.

“There’s no secret, we got outworked,” Stevens said. “When you do all the little things so poorly, we ended up being a very easy team to play against and they took advantage of it. They’re a desperate team; they hadn’t won a game yet, either. And they come out and get every loose puck, every board battle, every puck recovery. It was lopsided tonight and you can’t win a hockey game like that. Period.”

The Flyers are now 0-3-1, matching the worst four-game start in their history. And they play talented San Jose Saturday.

In tonight's game, the Flyers were outshot, 34-18, and they won just 20 of 50 faceoffs (40 percent). The Flyers were guilty of 12 of the 20 penalties called, and they allowed three goals in 11 shorthanded situations. The Flyers were 1 for 7 on the power play and are just 3 for 26 on the season.

"We play like it's preseason right now," Gagne said. "We're not ready to play. We don't battle. We don't do the little things right now. We're looking for the easy game ... We keep playing like that, it's going to be tough to win a game this year."

Encouraging...isn't it?

Anyway, finally even me is ****ing bored of that ****ing coach.
It's unbeliavable that after 3 season in this team and with a roster like that, he wasn't capable to create a real identity for the team.
Fur sure here in Italy in soccer we fire coach too early...but now it's becoming too late for firing Stevens.
If he doesn't go as soon as possible we are going to **** this season in about 15-20 games.

All of you who can go to the stadium, bring the sign: "SACK HIM NOW" maybe this will count for Snider and Holmgren!

typical stevens special on the horizon. he will outdo himself this time with an 11 game streak or better.

I think either Snider or Holmgren will stop this bleeding before that.

or call him in the office, take the glasses off, bend him over and start the bleeding. Tell Beruby he is next.

We've got big problems, coaching is definitely on the list. What concerns me the most is the battles along the boards that we're losing against teams that aren't gifted physically coupled with the fact that we never look ready to start games and lack any urgency until we're down by a couple. Shortcomings aside, the Avalanche game was downright embarrassing.

Have the Flyers shown any urgency at all in the 1st period of any of their games so far? If I remember correctly they absolutely got killed in SOG in the first.

A week ago, I agreed. Too much talent to miss the playoffs. Now I'm not so sure.
There is never too much talent to not miss the playoffs...

Granted, this team is, on paper, arguably the best in the conference. Nevertheless, when you have piss poor efforts you lose no matter who you are. When you have such a stacked lineup and start this poorly something has to be done.

Will this team miss the playoffs- probably not
Is this a disconcerting start- absolutely

As I've said before, this could wind up being a blessing in disguise. If we played poorly and won it would come back to bite us late. Hopefully this poor start serves as a wakeup call and we stop trying to win on talent alone

I thought not checking the score until this mornig would help!...I guessed wrong!

27 pages for a Avalanche GDT?...that's got to be a new record.

I bought season tickets...

With this start, I guess I should have just invested in the stock market.

alright alright. we were the worst team in the league with the worst defense in the NHL and a goalie with two torn labrums yet NO ONE gave Nitty a break. He took the blame for that season. 4-5 goals is unacceptable...if it was for Nitty, it is for Biron...especially since our D is upgraded and even if we were playing stevens' sloppy system (like we have been) it's not fair to say Biron isn't at fault.

sorry i am a nitty fan and at the end of the day i think stevens has always been and will continue to be the blame for this team. we have given our goalies too much slack over the past three years and now that murray is gone it's obvious how little stevens knows.

We are ranked 21 in ESPN's power rankings

This team has way too much talent, and we can't believe they won't snap out of this slow start sooner rather than later. If Jamie Moyer can reach a World Series ...

I hope/truly think they're right

Niittymaki ailing
Stevens considered starting Antero Niittymaki in goal last night until he came down with the flu. Marty Biron started for the Flyers.

im glad i didnt make online last night.
yikes.
11 PP chances for Colorado?
outshot 17-3 in the first period? just ridiculous.
boggles my mind how this team can continually come out not ready to play.
this is a trend that is all to familiar unfortunatly.
Knuble really needs to go.
like yesterday.
