That is an amazing lineup. I'm so pumped to see these line combos. Opposing coaches will have a hard time containing this offence, if injuries are not a factor.

I'm salivating over the thought of Higgins-Lang-Kostitsyn.

Actually, I just can't wait to see Higgins back.

I'd expect the "3rd" line of Higgins-Lang-Sergei to play more minutes then the Koivu line, so in that sense Koivu's line would be the 3rd. But it's not really important. I'm just glad to have Higgins back in the lineup.

This is the right move. Very glad to see Carbo go with that combination, at least to start.

Me too. I don't know if I could legitimately use Higgins' first game back as an excuse to duck out on my sister's wedding reception...

Completely off-topic, but does anybody else think Higgins' name is awesome to say in the manner of how a 50's/60's era sitcom boss would call an employee while berating him?

"HIIIIGGINS!! Where's that report that was due today?!?"

My friends and I definitely yell his name like this repeatedly throughout games. It's really fun to do.

HIIIGGINS!!!!

The more it will go on, the most ice time the Koivu/Tanguay/Latendresse line will see...

Koivu played amazingly well since the beginning of the season. He only had one bad game against Buffalo.

Tanguay is also playing very well... he was on the ice for 2 of the three goals of the team against Boston, plus the one he scored in shootout.

Latendresse is playing amazingly well as well.

If the ATAK line doesn't wake up soon, they'll see their ice time being cut. Kovalev is playing all right so far, but Plekanec and AK46 are not playing at half of what they're capable of.

ATAK line: They're always facing the top line of the opposite teams..

Not true... Briere's line was opposed to Koivu's last monday...

And come on... they aren't supposed to get owned by Axelsson - Savard - Ryder...

That's the first thing I thought of when I saw the lineup.

The ATAK has played just fine IMO. They have created tons of chances but they just aren't going in right now. That will change.

It's a good thing I saw that the Higgins thread was moved here, otherwise I'd miss this news completely. I wasn't going to check this thread out at all.

At any rate, Higgins is not paired with Koivu for the next game, yet the sun will still come out tomorrow. Tomorrow. Bet your bottom dollar. If Lats has a bad game, Higgy goes back. Mid-game. Simple as that.

Not so far, at least not in the home opener, where Carbo had last change. Here's the way Carbo divided the 5 on 5 minutes, based on the centers:

AKostitsyn-Plekanec-Kovalev

Axelsson-Savard-Ryder 3.0
Sturm-Bergeron-Kessel 2.3
Lucic-Krejci-Wheeler 4.9
Sobotka-Yelle-Thornton 2.4

Tanguay-Koivu-Latendresse

Axelsson-Savard-Ryder 2.4
Sturm-Bergeron-Kessel 4.4
Lucic-Krejci-Wheeler 2.2
Sobotka-Yelle-Thornton 2.7

SKostitsyn-Lang-Kostopoulos

Axelsson-Savard-Ryder 6.7
Sturm-Bergeron-Kessel 2.1
Lucic-Krejci-Wheeler 1.6
Sobotka-Yelle-Thornton 2.0

Laraque-Lapierre-Dandenault

Axelsson-Savard-Ryder 1.7
Sturm-Bergeron-Kessel 2.5
Lucic-Krejci-Wheeler 2.9
Sobotka-Yelle-Thornton 1.7

Stole the idea for this chart from the fantastic MC79 blog. If this (and the way Higgins was used last season) is any indication, Higgins-Lang-SKost will be doing most of the heavy lifting.

Just take a deep breath and calm down there. Its 4 games in. They are creating, and generating chances. They will find their finish soon. And if not, I wouldnt mind seeing lines of...
Higgins/Lang/Kovalev
Andrei/Plecs/Sergi.

Btw, I am loving the physical edge that Andrei is playing with so far.

Higgins - Lang - Kovalev would be a terrible line. Higgins can't play with Kovy.

Plekanec and Kovalev must stay together, no matter what the line combos are.

I agree about Plekanec and Kovalev. Someday I'd like to see Andrei play with Tanguay.

Higgins with Lang and Kostitsyn.. Should be fun to watch. I like how the lines are well balanced now. Higgins can compliment both Koivu and Lang well. Latendresse on the other hand, tends to peform better alongside Koivu.

The way the lines are formed right now, you don't know who's better: Koivu's line or Lang's ? If Higgins was on Koivu's line, I think it would be fair to say that the Koivu line would be the better one.

The way I see it :

A) Kostitsyn - Plekanec - Kovalev
B1) Latendresse - Koivu - Tanguay
B2) Higgins - Lang - Kostitsyn

vs.

A) Kostitsyn - Plekanec - Kovalev
A) Higgins - Koivu - Tanguay
B3) Latendresse - Lang - Kostitsyn

Thus, for now, Plekanec's line should be considered our #1 by most of the other teams in the NHL, it is simply the most dangerous one. What they should not know however is our #3, now that we have 2 #2s with the addition of Higgins on Lang's line.

And when they put Kovalev and Plecs together two years ago, they didnt have any either, it took some time, but it worked in the end, however Kovalev would (should) have chemstry with Lang right off the bat, and Higgins can be the guy who does the grunt work in the corners and digs the puck out for Lang and Kovalev. Jsut becasue they might not have any chemestry right now, doesnt mean that wont ever have any.
All this to say, the normal lines will stay for the next 3-4 games.

That's hilarious. I can really picture it too.

PS: Can a mod edit the title to say that Higgins is now on the 3rd line?
