I'll be interested to compare Schenn and Staal in the coming years, since Schenn took over Staal's nickname of the "human eraser" once Staal was no longer a hot new prospect

At this point, I think Staal is playing excellent defense, and his ability to make good plays under pressure in his own zone is setting him apart from your regular, run of the mill defensive defenseman.

Anyways, was the game as crappy as it sounds?

They played hard last night and absolutely DOMINATED the 3rd period. Deserved the two points they got. Toronto was lucky to leave with one. Lets take it to the Wings.

It's been a long time since the last time I seen a team be completely outplayed and be so lucky as the leafs in the third period. They had no business making it to overtime but kudos to Toskala for playing very well but also getting bailed out by the posts a few times.

Schenn is the real deal, leafs got a bright young star there.

We certainly got a stud dman. That hit was awesome and that's not the end of it. While Mayers should not have fought and in that situation, and probably did what he did because it was a young dman - that same bout will have different results in a couple of years.

What I liked was that Staal didn't seem at all affected by it, and continued to chase down Mayers from then on and making sure to get good contact on him.

I was totally impressed that he continued to hit everything with out discrimination. He seemed unphased by the fight and played his normal game.
