Yes, they're behind the curve when it comes to bloggers, but I wouldn't call it "pathetic." The fact is, teams like the Oilers who get a substantial amount of press coverage by the MSM don't really "need" bloggers and so they haven't come up with an appropriate policy regarding on the site coverage - yet. I don't expect this to be permanent though.

I've heard stories about some teams in the US (I believe the Isles are an example) who are so desperate for press coverage (that they don't get from the MSM) that they have started issuing press passes to internet bloggers. You might call teams like that "ahead of the curve," but I would say that desperation has forced them to think outside the box. I believe the Oilers will come around too, it just might not happen overnight. Maybe this incident will be the turning point, but nevertheless I don't see the need for harsh characterizations like calling them "the epitome of pathetic." This thread title is the epitome of hyperbole.

I believe him when he said he apologized. In that situation, it wouldn't make sense to throw a fit about something so inconsequential. And it wouldn't make sense for the Oilers organization to be "more understanding" after later correspondence.

An employee and an organization go hand in hand.

My guess is the point is that he could be taking info that he is entitled to only by purpose of the press pass and making money off of it. That is, of course, if he's a paid blogger. I know anyone can watch the game, but I'm sure there are things said up there that we don't all hear.

This didnt deserve it's own thread. It could have went in with the other "news and blog reports for today. Someone just wants people to feel sorry for them.

I have no idea, but until someone informs me otherwise, my impression would be that they're trying to control what info goes out.

I don't know, why do they say lower-body injury? Why are the terms of contracts never initially released when IT'S IN THE RULES that they have to be made public?

95% of blogs suck. They are written by people who are just trying to advance thier own twisted agendas and are not skilled enough to get a real reporting job (or are unwilling to at least attempt to be unbiased and report FACTS)

Anyone who breaks rules they are well aware of deserve what they get.

Sometimes an apology is too little too late when you have made an ass of yourself. I have been crossing the border back into Canada with friends and they think they are acting cordial with customs and wonder why they have their vehicle searched. People can cop a lot of attitude and piss off the authorities. I suspect that is exactly what this guy did.

And that's just it. The great thing about bloggers is that you only hear one side of the story.

I'm not saying that this didn't happened, but to paint the entire org with the same brush is wrong.

The Oilers aren't the only team to practice this. Do I agree with it? No, but it's a rule that explained in detail when you get your pass. I'm surprised he wasn't told.

I know the Oilers (and other teams) frown upon media acting like "fans" up there - maybe that's the way they looked at the situation.

The Oilers probably have the biggest blogosphere of any NHL team. They have communicative online staff that actually post on this board from time to time. They ask questions and try to improve based on OUR feedback. So some blogger got kicked out and all of a sudden the Oilers "haven't grasped the sea change", and lack "basic computer literacy"?

This blogger just sounds like a whiny baby. He needs some Kimble:

Unlocked?

Like others have said, two sides to a story. I feel no remorse for someone who clearly hadn't listened upon getting his pass. The rules are clear as can be and are outlined specifically.
