Halak is 8-0-1 at the Bell Centre I'm pretty sure.

Because they said they wanted to keep Halak active, not make him play a game every 2weeks.

I don't get what people still whine about. Both our goalies are good.

Do you not realize that Halak is a good goalie? We have just as much of a chance to win a game with Halak in net as Price.

Yes I do realise that. Halak is a great goaltender but that really isn`t the point. The reason why I am a bit baffled by this decision is because, I beleive that Price is our future and that we shouldn't be constantly switching between him and Halak, like we did last year with Huet and Price. I'm not a fan of a two goaltender system.

We're not switching.
Halak is the backup and Price is our #1. That is set in stone this year.

Halak will play maybe around 25-30Games this season, Price isn't ready to jump right away into 70ish games.
Even Brodeur didn't until a couple seasons.

This year, we have 2solid Goalies, and we can't just give 10-15Games to a goalie as promising as Halak.
He won't take over Price's spot, unless Carey chokes.

I think its pretty obvious there gonna go with

Price 3 games, halak 1 game, price 3 games, halak one game

makes sense to me, keeps halak relatively game ready

and this is not counting either goalie getting pulled, who knows with that

If Brodeur, Lundy, Nabokov, Luongo can all play at least 70 games a year and the playoffs then why can't Price? Why does everyone assume that he'll be tired? He's freakin 21 years old.

Having said, I think it 60-20 is the right distribution of games.

Didn't he get tired last season??..

On top of it, when you have a great backup such as Halak, you don't have to rush Price into 70ish games.
You also can't ignore Halak and think he'll be happy playing 10ish games.

Also, all the goalies you mentioned, when they started, did not have another great youngster as their back up. It took them a few seasons before playing in the 70games range.
For Naby, when he was well seconded by Toskala, he didn't play 70ish games either.

Some people don't realize, when you have 2 great goalies, you have to make them play both. 55/25-50/30 sounds more like it.

I know that he won't be playing against another team for more than a week but does it really matter ? Really ?? I'm a defenseman, so I may be way out here, but he does practice with the team almost daily to keep himself sharp, no ?

Halak should start Monday.

There's good arguments pro and con for both Price and Halak on the pure hockey merits of it, but there's an additional reason to start Halak - to showcase him as a good goalie asset for other teams to go after. This is especially true if Minnesota is actually interested in him, and it could make or break a Gaborik trade.

Do you not remember he had been playing for almost 2 years without a break ?

and was out of shape too.

At 21 years old, he should have no problem playing 65+ game.

Yes I do. Point is he got tired, so we know he can fatigue. Everybody can get tired, Miller was dead at the end of last season.
Since we have a great back up, why risk going into the POs with a possible tired Price? We don't have to abuse of our starter.
You also want to keep Halak active in case something happens to Price and to make him gain value.

Halak/Price

We have to give Halak the start. We don't want Price to burn out once again this year. While he would have plenty of rest prior to Anaheim we want to keep Halak sharp so he could play about 25 games this year. Secondly, why do we want to showcase Halak for Minnesota? Do we really need Gaborik? The Canadiens are the most offensive team in the league. Getting Gaborik will not address the team's most pressing need (if it even really has one) and that is a top 4 defenseman like Bouwmeester. And finally, I beg you Gainey, don't ever get rid of Higgins!

Its a long season, theres no need to give Price every game now. He'll stay fresh for later on down the stretch when we it gets closer to playoff time. Halak is also capable of getting us wins without question. Pretty good decision.

They should just bench both goalies.. we don't need goalies.. we're gonna score 30 goals.

I like it, keep the competition going.

Both are playing well. As long as we win, Gillett can go in nets, i dont care.
