We all thought he was slotted for Saturday's game, but he wasnt.
Then we all thought he would play on monday but he isnt.
Either his injury is more serious than all of us imagine or something else is afoot...
Does anybody have any info that would shed light on this?
Actually, it's a very good question.
The Habs are not allowed to have 24 players on the active roster. WIth Franky Broth coming off IR to play, and with Kyle Chipchura recalled this morning, we are one player over the limit. Either someone is being waived, or someone else other than FB is going on IR.
Groin injuries are tricky. The biggest problem is that they can become chronic, meaning it's really important to let them heal fully before doing something that would put you at risk for another one. I agree that the situation surrounding Higgins is a little suspicious, but I don't think it's completely out of the question that he may have re-aggravated the injury yesterday in the gym and the trainers are just being super careful.
Groin injuries can be slow to heal and easily reagrivated.
As has been pointed out we can't do a Gaborik deal now due to the cap implications... we need to wait like 2 months for it to happen.
Calling Chipchura back further complicates this as the cap is calculated daily.
I doubt we are planning on sitting Higgins for 2 months to wait for the deal to go through.
More likely in my mind is that Higgins re-aggravated something and is not seen at the team practice today cause he is out to see a specialist on the problem.

Maybe not a precursor to a trade, but there is definitely something in the air. I'm sure Higgins is in some discussions by Gainey and is close to something. It's normal that they are not playing Higgins tonight to not reaggravated the injury.
In the other way, the season is beginning so why take a risk?

yeah gainey should announce he just signed him to a 5 year extension to shut everyone up. for years and years fans and media whined and whined about no one wanting to play here and no farm team. suddenly habs draft a guy who loves being here, understands the pressure and expectations and is already a leader and solid goal scorer. higgins will become drury like within 5 years. i guarantee it.
and the guy is in every freakin' rumor out there. granted many come from the teams who want him, but the media should be ashamed of themselves putting this shiite on him. it's pathetic. based on pre-existing team chemistry + our depth at wing, i'll take no. 21 over the 26 year old super star euro made of glass head case ANY DAY.
*edit marinaro just announced higgins didn't get clearance. guess he's not on a plane to minny yet

IIRC, I think you can retroactively place a guy on IR, so 7 days from last Saturday goes to next Saturday. This is assuming I have the rule for IR being 7 days minimum correct as well.

How does it work? Even in two months, even at the deadline, it seems to me that Gaborik's salary would put us over the cap...still every analyst in the city discusses the trade as being possible. But I can't see mathematically how it could be done
could be ready for saturday.... so the earliest he could go on IR would be retro to Sunday... but that doesn't really work for Saturday. So he misses two games instead of one. He was no sure thing for Saturday anyway... and that was before his tests.
or they could place Higgins on IR retoactively too...
